A place to share and support those in difficult circumstances

Last week, from September 20 to 26, the Provincial Federation of Labor (PFF) organized the handover of 6 Union Shelters. Each house is a separate story about the difficult, determined lives of workers.

The situation of Mr. Thach Da Ra - a single father raising two young children moved many people. Mr. Da Ra said that after more than 10 years of living together as husband and wife, not having complete happiness, he shouldered the responsibility of both his father and mother.

He alone works as a worker and takes care of his children. The older one is in grade 7, the younger one is in grade 1. The father and son live in a makeshift house, which is often dilapidated in the rain.

"Now I have a warm sleeping place, no need to worry about leaking rain. If we go to work, it will not affect our children's education on rainy and windy days," Mr. Da Ra said emotionally.

As for the situation of Ms. Tran Thi Cam Tien - Accountant of Ngai Xuyen B Primary School - living with her elderly father who suffered from many illnesses, also received a new house.

Ms. Tien said that with the cost of living and medicine for her father, there was almost no surplus. She did not dare to dream of a decent meal, let alone say anything about having a new house.

"The Trade Union Shelter Program not only brings solid houses, but also greatly encourages the spirit, adding motivation for workers to move forward in life," Ms. Tien added.

Besides these two situations, the remaining families are also filled with joy. There are workers who live in oversized houses or have to stay in cramped rented rooms, now they are happy to have a solid roof, peace of mind and a stable life.

Mr. Cao Huu Trong Bac - Chairman of the Trade Union of Tra Vinh Lefaso E-commerce and Production Joint Stock Company - said that Mr. Thach Da Ra is a hard-working, responsible worker who always tries to overcome difficulties.

"Although his family's circumstances are difficult, he is still exemplary at work, always caring to support his colleagues and maintaining a positive spirit, being an example for other workers to follow," Mr. Bac added.

Ms. Vo Thi Thu Oanh - Vice President of the Vinh Long Provincial Federation of Labor - said that from September 20-26, the Provincial Federation of Labor handed over 6 Trade Union Shelters to union members in difficult circumstances.

At the same time, she said that from 2006 to present, the Labor Federations of Vinh Long, Tra Vinh and Ben Tre provinces (before the merger) have built 3,314 units, with a total value of more than 101.3 billion VND.

According to Ms. Oanh, each house donated not only helps union members escape difficulties in housing but also spreads humanistic values, helping workers feel secure in their work and stay with the enterprise as well as the Union for a long time.

"The Trade Union Shelter Program is a spiritual support, helping workers stabilize their lives, strengthen their trust in the Trade Union organization and spread profound humanistic meaning in the working community," Ms. Oanh added.
