For more than 10 years, the Hai Phong City Employment Service Center (Department of Home Affairs) has organized many free vocational training classes, supporting unemployed female workers to improve their skills, return to the labor market soon and find suitable jobs.

Supporting vocational training for female workers after unemployment

Present at the conference on Connecting career changes for female workers after unemployment, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Dao (Anh Dung ward, Duong Kinh district) hopes to regain confidence before coming to a new job. At the age of 35, Ms. Dao left the labor market twice. Most recently, at the end of 2023, Ms. Dao quit her job at a garment company due to not being able to balance her time between work and family.

"My children are now older, my family's work is stable, but I am not confident when looking for a new job, worried before returning to the labor market because I still lack many skills and it is difficult to compete with young workers today," Ms. Dao confided.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh - Head of the Department of Employment Consulting - Vocational Training of the Hai Phong City Employment Service Center - said that in addition to supporting procedures for receiving unemployment benefits for employees, from 2014 to present, the Center has organized free vocational training classes for unemployed employees, especially female employees, to help employees feel more confident when returning to the labor market.

Currently, the center is maintaining free training classes for employees receiving unemployment insurance, lasting from 3 to 6 months, including foreign language training classes in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, focusing on foreign language communication skills for employees, studying at appropriate times to suit their needs, combining in parallel 2 forms of in-person and online learning. For example, Chinese language training courses have been implemented with 9 courses with the participation of hundreds of workers. Many employees after 3 sessions have been able to communicate basically and find suitable jobs after completing the course.

Grasping the current labor market trend, the Center also opens personal makeup training classes, beverage mixing, food processing, classes on sewing fashion, industrial sewing... for employees, especially female workers.

Every year, more than 1,000 workers complete free training courses, many of whom have quickly found suitable new jobs with stable income, said Ms. Thanh.

Helping female workers return to the labor market soon

Along with vocational training support, every month, the Center maintains online and direct job fairs for employees, connecting jobs for tens of thousands of employees each year.

In 2025, with the goal of creating jobs for 58,500 workers, the urban unemployment rate will reach below 3.5%, the Center will maintain transaction sessions in both online and in-person formats. Most recently, on April 14, nearly 2,000 employees participated in the job fair in 2 forms. At the end of the trading session, many candidates were invited for in-depth interviews by the company's personnel, achieving an initial preliminary score of about 41%. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien (34 years old, Thuy Nguyen City): After many years of working in seasonal jobs, through the trading session on April 14, I was interviewed directly and accepted to work at VSIP Industrial Park in accordance with my conditions.

A representative of the Department of Employment introduction and Vocational Training said that through job counseling sessions for employees, many employees, especially female workers, face barriers when returning to the labor market, especially in terms of psychology. Therefore, in the coming time, in parallel with vocational training and job connection, the center will also maintain organizing thematic talks to share the difficulties and problems of female workers, helping them have more information about the labor market before finding new jobs for themselves.
