Workers master AI and technology - key to increasing labor productivity

Bringing artificial intelligence (AI) closer to union members and workers

Recently, in Bac Ninh, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology opened a training course on AI application skills for workers, within the framework of the emulation movement "Good Labor, High Productivity, Good Income" (period 2026 - 2031). Online training courses on AI have created a learning "fever" when attracting more than 79,600 registrations (reaching a rate of nearly 97% of the target) and nearly 62,000 people have completed the program.

According to Mr. Pham Duc Long - Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Chairman of the Vietnam Science and Technology Union, the rapid development of AI is both a retreat challenge, but also an opportunity to improve productivity. Through these courses, the Union is implementing an important shift: From protecting current jobs to protecting long-term competitiveness for union members, helping workers form digital thinking, innovative thinking to adapt to the modern working environment.

The AI application skills training course not only helps workers access new technologies but also contributes to forming digital thinking, innovative thinking and adaptability to modern working environments.

In-depth training, international standards

Recently, Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) organized the awarding of international certificates with global value for temperature testing using thermal cameras to 10 engineers of EVNHCMC. These are the first electrical engineers in Vietnam to be deeply trained and meet international standards in thermal imaging in the electrical industry.

To be certified, these engineers had to go through 10 days of in-depth theoretical study and 820 hours of practical practice on the power grid on modern heat testing and analysis methods according to international standard ISO 18436-7 guided by experts from the IRT Thermal Photo Academy (Canada).

Mr. Le Van Minh - Chairman of EVNHCMC Trade Union - said that previously, trade union activities mainly focused on caring for material life, but now EVNHCMC Trade Union activities have determined that caring for workers (NLĐ) must go hand in hand with investing in people and long-term human resources. This is also a content that the corporation's leaders are particularly interested in, because training and improving the scientific and technical level for EVNHCMC's human resources is to meet the increasingly deep international integration requirements in the field of energy and technology, and at the same time implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.

In addition, emulation movements launched by trade unions all aim to increase labor productivity, improve working conditions and help workers have better incomes. Typical examples include the emulation movement "Implementing 1,500 initiatives and solutions" launched by EVNHCMC, which has achieved many successes. Typically, the program of registering construction schedules for repairing 22kV medium-voltage power lines currently carrying electricity (live line). This initiative has digitized the entire process of registering and coordinating work schedules, which previously heavily relied on manual paperwork procedures. Through this, the program creates a synchronous and smooth digital data connection and interaction between the Power Service Company and 15 affiliated Power Companies, helping the city's electricity flow to be maintained continuously even during grid maintenance.

Investing in training for young workers

Mr. Nguyen Tang Phap - a young engineer (born in 1992), currently Head of Production Quality Improvement Department, Samsung HCMC CE Complex Electronics Co., Ltd. (SEHC), who has had many initiatives and technical improvements from 2022 to February 2025 that have profited the company nearly 17 billion VND and received the Ton Duc Thang Award in 2025, said that young workers always hope to have more opportunities to be trained, improve their skills, access new technologies to adapt to modern production trends, digital transformation and automation.

When learning and developing, employees not only improve their self-worth but also improve labor productivity, making more effective contributions to businesses and society" - Mr. Phap said.

Ms. Pham Thi Hong Yen - Chairwoman of the Trade Union of Intel Products Vietnam Co., Ltd. - said that in many businesses, the young workforce has many outstanding advantages. They have the ability to quickly access new technologies, flexible thinking, high learning spirit and are ready to participate in the digital transformation process, proactively propose initiatives, improve processes, and apply technology to improve productivity and work efficiency. From there, Ms. Yen proposed that the State and Trade Union organizations should continue to improve scholarship programs, support training to improve qualifications and encourage research and development activities for the young workforce.

The fact that tens of thousands of workers enthusiastically study AI, a series of engineers meet international standards or training cooperation agreements are signed is proof of an innovative Trade Union mindset. When workers are equipped with solid skills and digital thinking, they will create value, increase income and make sustainable contributions to the country's economy.
