Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics and Technology owes teachers and staff more than 26 billion VND

Many teachers and staff are owed salaries and teaching fees

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy An - formerly a law teacher - said that she started working at the school in 2012 and at the beginning of November 2024, the school decided to let her quit her job according to her personal wishes. After terminating the labor contract, the school completed procedures to finalize the social insurance book, but has not yet paid her salary and teaching remuneration for 28 months (from July 2022 to October 2024) totaling more than 140.7 million VND.

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang - staff of the Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics and Technology - also said that from June 2023 to November 2025, the school did not fully pay his salary, wages and other income with an amount of more than 270.5 million VND. His salary from December 1, 2025 to now (he was kept to continue training students of unfinished courses) has also not been paid.

The biggest debtor of salary, wages and other income among the 13 people suing Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics and Technology this time is Mr. Le Thanh Hai. Mr. Hai said that the total amount the school still owes him is more than 513 million VND.

Mr. Duong Van Thuan - Deputy Head of Labor Relations Department, Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union Workers' Counseling and Support Center, who was authorized by teachers and staff of Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics and Technology to protect his rights - said that the total amount of salaries and teaching fees the school still owes to 13 teachers and staff is more than 4 billion VND.

Must wait for the conclusion of functional agencies

Working with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Head of the Legal - Control Department for the term 2025 - 2030 of Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics and Technology - said that after the change in the school's Board of Directors (from the end of November 2025), the new leadership has not yet received complete dossiers and documents from the old leadership.

However, initial statistics show that the school currently owes teachers and staff more than 26 billion VND in salaries and teaching fees, of which the number of full-time lecturers and staff with labor contracts is about 20 billion VND and visiting lecturers and employees without labor contracts is more than 6 billion VND.

In February 2026, the new leadership signed a contract with the auditing unit to audit the entire operation of the school in the 2021-2025 term, but some responsible people previously did not cooperate to provide information. The new leadership also had an official letter requesting the Ho Chi Minh City Base Tax Department to inspect the school's compliance with tax payment obligations from 2021-2025, but the tax authority has not yet responded. Currently, among the 61 people who have sued the school to demand debt for salaries and teaching remuneration, 22 cases have been accepted by the court, and the remaining 11 cases the school knows about, but has not received notification from the court.

Mr. Khanh also said that after the conclusion of the audit and tax agencies, the new leadership of the school will proceed to pay salaries to employees according to the principle that if the conclusion of the functional agency differs by less than 10% compared to the school's dossier, it will be paid in full, and if the difference is more than 10% compared to the dossier, it will be transferred to the functional agency for further settlement. Mr. Khanh also provided some more information about abnormal signs in the school's operations in the period 2021-2025.

Mr. Tran Khac Xin - Principal of Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics and Technology, just took office from May 2, 2026 and has not yet received his salary. Mr. Xin said that to solve the salary arrears situation, cooperation from teachers is needed to continue teaching, and when enrollment is achieved, there will be money to pay salaries and teaching fees to teachers.
