Trade Union Shelters help union members in difficult circumstances in Khanh Hoa stabilize their lives
Khanh Hoa - In 10 years, the Trade Union Charity Fund has supported the construction and repair of 152 houses for union members and workers in difficult circumstances.
Joy in the new house
After many years of renting rooms, this rainy season, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu, residing in Go Den village, Xuan Hai commune (Khanh Hoa) - a member of the grassroots Trade Union of the Management Board of Nui Chua - Phuoc Binh National Park, has her own house.
The 78m2 level 4 house, brick walls, corrugated iron roof, tiled floor, iron door was inaugurated in August 2026, with a total construction cost of about 300 million VND.
In which, her family prepared and borrowed 240 million VND; Khanh Hoa Trade Union Charity Fund supported 60 million VND. For Ms. Nhu, the house is the result of many years of accumulation and the joint efforts of the Trade Union organization.
Her family has 2 children. The eldest child, 3.5 years old, suffered from spina bifida and had to undergo surgery when she was only 38 days old. The sequelae caused the child to have spinal defects, her left leg to be crooked, leg atrophy, and difficulty walking.
Meanwhile, Ms. Nhu's husband had a motorbike accident and had to undergo surgery to sever his right leg ligaments. Due to his weak legs, he cannot do heavy work, only helping with light housework.
The family's main source of income is about 10 million VND/month. Before having a new house, the couple had to rent a house to live in.
In 2025, the couple saved up to buy a piece of land. By August 2026, along with the support of the Trade Union and family borrowed money, the dream house was completed.
Repairing and building 152 new houses
According to Mr. Bui Dang Thanh - Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial Labor Federation, in the period 2016-2026, the Khanh Hoa Trade Union Charity Fund received a total of 8.072 billion VND from contributions of union members and organizations, units, businesses, and individuals inside and outside the province.
From the fund, the Provincial Labor Federation has supported the construction of 112 new houses and repaired 40 houses, with a total budget of 6.713 billion VND.
The "Trade Union Shelter" program is one of the typical activities in caring for union members and workers in difficult circumstances. Resources are allocated to the right subjects and purposes; the process of receiving, distributing and using funds is carried out publicly and transparently.
From the support of the Trade Union, many families have more motivation to mobilize resources from relatives, authorities, agencies, units and colleagues.
Thanks to that, the houses initially supported with 60 million VND can be completed with a total cost of up to hundreds of millions of VND, contributing to stabilizing the lives of union member families.
Also according to Mr. Thanh, besides the achieved results, the need for support is currently increasing while the prices of materials, labor and construction costs are increasing. Some union members cannot access the program because they do not have legal residential land or are still entangled in procedures related to land use rights.
In the coming time, Khanh Hoa Trade Union will continue to survey and classify union members' circumstances to support the right subjects; mobilize resources to build the Fund; strengthen inspection and supervision and propose to the government to create conditions for land and procedures to build "Trade Union Homes", and at the same time pay attention to developing social housing and housing for workers.
Over 10 years, the houses built have not only helped union members have stable accommodation but also spread the spirit of mutual affection, contributing to consolidating workers' trust in the Trade Union organization.
