HCMC prepares to invest in Vo Van Kiet Street, extending 14.6 km to Tay Ninh
Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to invest in the Vo Van Kiet route extending from National Highway 1 to the Tay Ninh provincial border (formerly Long An province), about 14.6 km long, 60 m wide.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just assigned the Department of Construction to urgently complete the Pre-Feasibility Study Report for the East-West axis construction project (extended Vo Van Kiet Street) and submit it to the City People's Committee for consideration according to regulations, with a completion date of before February 25, 2026.
At the same time, the Department of Planning and Architecture was assigned to review and update the section from Ring Road 3 to the border of Long An province before; implement the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in Official Dispatch No. 4814/UBND-DT dated June 27, 2025 in the drawing with the dossier to adjust the Ho Chi Minh City Master Plan to 2040, with a vision to 2060. This will be the basis for proposing the project investment policy.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the Vo Van Kiet extended route starts at the National Highway 1 overpass intersection on Vo Van Kiet Street (formerly Binh Chanh District), ending at the previous Long An provincial border, coinciding with the starting point of the DT.823D project.
The project is divided into three sections. The first section is about 2.7 km long, from the National Highway 1 overpass to the Tan Tao - Cho Dem intersection (Vo Tran Chi Street). This is a section that Ho Chi Minh City has implemented under the BOT form but has not completed and has terminated the contract with the investor.
The second section is 6.6 km long, from Tan Tao - Cho Dem road to Ring Road 3, including the construction of an intersection connecting synchronously with this belt route.
The remaining section from Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 to the border of the former Long An province is about 5.3 km long.
The route is 60 m wide, built according to urban main axis standards, with a design speed of 80 km/h for motor vehicles and 60 km/h for mixed lanes.
On the route, a total of 6 bridges will be built across the river, including: Cai Trung Bridge and Hung Nhon Bridge in section 1; Lang Le Bau Co Bridge and Kenh A Bridge in section 2; the bridge over An Ha - Xang An Ha Canal and another bridge over Kenh A in section 3.
Build a complete intersection with Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 to ensure interconnection and synchronous traffic infrastructure in the western gateway area of the city.
The total preliminary investment of the project is nearly VND 19,400 billion. Of which, the cost of site clearance accounts for a large proportion, about VND 12,875 billion; the cost of construction and installation is about VND 3,769 billion; the rest is for consultation, contingency and other costs.
Currently, Vo Van Kiet Street is about 13 km long, 60 m wide, stretching from Calmette Bridge (formerly District 1) to the National Highway 1 intersection (formerly Binh Chanh District).
This route is an important part of the East - West route (O Van Kiet - Thu Thiem - Mai Chi Tho tunnel), put into operation since 2009, contributing to connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Southern Key Economic Zone.
The study to extend Vo Van Kiet Street to Tay Ninh is expected to create a strategic traffic axis, strengthen regional linkages, and promote socio-economic development between Ho Chi Minh City and the Southwest region in the coming period.
In addition to the Vo Van Kiet extended road project, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and the People's Committee of Tay Ninh province have agreed to prioritize investment in 8 key transport projects in the period of 2026 - 2030 to enhance connectivity between the two localities, including:
- The newly opened Northwest route and DT.823D.
- Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway.
- Nguyen Van Bua Street (from Ba Giong Intersection to TL9 Bridge) and build Lon Bridge.
- National Highway 50B.
- Le Van Luong and DT.826C Streets.
- Provincial Road 6 - Provincial Road 15 (the road along the Saigon River) and DT.789.
- Binh Duong - Tay Ninh dynamic axis (Bau Bang - Moc Bai).
- Road and connecting bridge No. 1 (National Highway 56B).
