Hanoi Metro switches to a new electronic ticket system from February 1, 2026
Hanoi Metro will switch to a new electronic ticket system from February 1, 2026, the entire Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station route will apply the identification system.
From February 1, 2026, 100% of ticket gateways on the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station urban railway line will apply an identification, electronic authentication and biometric identification system.
Information from Hanoi Railway Company Limited (Hanoi Metro) said that from January 17, 2026, the unit will stop selling tickets of the old system on route 3.1 Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station. Passengers can buy tickets under the new system through the Hanoi Metro Application or directly at the ticket counter at stations.
For time-based tickets (day tickets, weekly tickets, monthly tickets), passengers are allowed to buy many days in advance and tickets are only activated when used for the first time.
From February 1, 2026, all ticket gateways on route 3.1 Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station will operate under the new identification system. After this time, tickets in the old ticket sales system will no longer be valid.
Hanoi Metro also implemented free conversion support for weekly and monthly tickets that are still valid in the old system, preserving 100% of ticket value. The conversion will be carried out from January 17, 2026 to January 28, 2026, with the direct support of the station staff.
During the transition period, stations will still maintain at least one ticket gate using the old system until January 28, 2026 to ensure smooth passenger travel.
From January 17, 2026 to March 21, 2026, passengers who buy one-way tickets will continue to receive 100% support for Hanoi Metro Application. In particular, passengers using the international payment card Visa to pass through the ticket gate will also be supported with 100% of ticket prices until February 28, 2026.
