Director of Hanoi Police requested to handle 51 points that are often congested
Hanoi has implemented a number of solutions to gradually overcome and reduce traffic pressure, including sidewalk cuts and road expansion.
On January 13, Hanoi City Police held a conference to evaluate the results of reviewing, collecting statistics and proposing solutions for 51 locations that are frequently congested in the city.
According to the report at the Conference, through the current review, it was determined that there are 51 points in the city that are often congested, mainly concentrated in the inner city area, including 16 congestion points originating from fences serving the construction of works and projects; 35 congestion points due to traffic volume exceeding the capacity of the current traffic infrastructure.
Based on the assessment of the causes and degrees of impact, functional units have implemented a number of solutions to gradually overcome and reduce traffic pressure and improve traffic organization efficiency in the city such as: Strengthening patrols, controlling, strictly handling violations that are direct causes of traffic congestion (including: encroaching on roadways and sidewalks for business and trading; picking up and dropping off passengers in violation of regulations; stopping and parking illegally...); adjusting cycles and lights at intersections; urging construction units to speed up progress; installing and adjusting hourly signs; cutting sidewalks, closing openings, expanding road surfaces...

Speaking at the Conference, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung - Director of Hanoi City Police emphasized that solving traffic congestion is a key political task, which must be carried out regularly, not in a temporary manner and not a separate task of the Traffic Police force.
Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung requested units to unify awareness, data and list of traffic congestion points to serve direction and management; strictly implement the results of classifying causes and solutions that have been identified and handled in response to causes; have timelines and criteria for evaluating effectiveness; ensure substance, no formality, no movement.
Request to change the approach from handling each point to organizing traffic according to axes - routes - areas; increase remote traffic flow, limit line congestion. Prioritize the implementation of quick and effective solutions such as: adjusting the traffic light cycle, reorganizing lanes, painting lines, etc. At the same time, the Traffic Police Department proactively grasps the situation and progress of construction works to promptly propose and urge the reduction of barriers and the return of road surfaces on schedule.
Emphasizing the need to tighten discipline and order in implementation, the Director of CATP assigned the Traffic Police Department to develop a specific roadmap to handle the 51 above-mentioned traffic congestion points, with a time frame, and at the same time adjust the plan to suit reality.
Immediately after the Conference, the Director of CATP requested units to urgently implement the agreed contents, report on schedule; if there are difficulties and problems beyond their authority, they must promptly report to review and direct the resolution.
