AI camera system integrates many smart features

From December 13, 2025, Hanoi City Police officially put into use an AI camera system with about 1,837 cameras, deployed and installed on 25 streets and 195 key intersections. These are areas with a high risk of violating traffic safety and urban order.

According to Hanoi Police, the AI camera system has smart features, such as: automatically collecting traffic data, controlling traffic lights in real time to contribute to reducing congestion; automatically setting up an online "green lane" for priority vehicles and convoy vehicles to optimize movement, ensuring smoothness;

Automatically analyze, detect and record, support handling of 28 common traffic violations such as stopping and parking in violation of regulations; going in the wrong direction; running red lights; not wearing helmets...

Violations are recorded by the system with complete and clear images and clips; sufficient information about the time and location of the violation, as a legal basis for handling.

With this new system, the total number of cameras being operated by the Command and Operation Centers at the Hanoi City Police level is about 3,000 cameras. In addition, there is a camera system at the Monitoring Centers of the Ward and Commune Police.

Timely handling of violations, contributing to reducing congestion

According to statistics from the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) - Hanoi City Police, after 1 month of operation (from December 13, 2025 to January 12, 2026), the AI camera system has recorded, reviewed and censored images of 6,351 cases with sufficient basis to send notices to serve the handling of violations (cold fines).

In particular, 4,215 cases of non-compliance with traffic light signals (accounting for 66.36%, including 1,962 cars, 2,253 motorbikes); not wearing helmets in 2,053 cases (accounting for 32.32%) and other violations such as stopping and parking in places with no stopping or parking signs, not wearing seat belts.

Along with that, the application of smart traffic light control solutions on streets and buttons with AI camera systems has helped traffic situation have clear changes and efficiency.

"S Typically, increase travel speed on one-way routes and reduce travel time by 31% - 36.8%, increase traffic volume through the route by 13% - 18.88%; increase travel speed on two-way routes with high traffic density, near-by intersections, many branches, many directions and reduce average travel time by 20% - 25%, increase traffic volume through the route by 8% - 15%", informed a representative of the Traffic Police Department - Hanoi City Police.

In addition to using an automatic AI camera system to record and support handling violations, Hanoi City Police also deploys 24/7 duty forces at the City Police's Command and Operation Centers and camera monitoring centers of Ward and Commune Police to directly monitor and supervise; promptly detect violations, identify signs of congestion and notify the Traffic Police and Order Police at the scene to organize handling, preventing violations or directing traffic, ensuring people travel smoothly.

The above results show that the application of surveillance camera and AI camera systems has been clearly effective, actively supporting authorities to detect and handle violations objectively and promptly, contributing to reducing traffic congestion.
