Nha Trang environmental sanitation workers work through New Year's Eve
Khanh Hoa - Tet is coming, when many families gather to welcome the New Year's Eve moment, hundreds of environmental workers are still quietly working on the streets.
At 9 pm on the 29th of Tet, along Tran Phu street, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Van (Team 3 - worker of Nha Trang Environment and Urban Joint Stock Company) and the worker team are still diligently collecting garbage.
Large and small trash bags piled high after a day of people shopping and cleaning their houses at the end of the year. Ms. Hong Van shared that she has been in this job for many years, but the feeling of being on duty on the 30th night is very special.
Everyone wants to be at home to worship New Year's Eve with their families. But if I quit, who will clean up the streets? The profession has been chosen, I have to try to beautify the streets," she said.

According to her, New Year's Eve is the most difficult time of the year. Waste has increased many times compared to normal days, and many gathering points are overloaded.
There are working shifts that last until 2-3 am on the 1st day of Tet to finish. After that, workers only have time to rest and change shifts.
Mr. Dang Quoc Cuong (Team 5) added that the biggest pressure is to collect them in time so that on the morning of the 1st day of Tet, when people go out for spring outings, everything is clean.
Just one bus delay and garbage accumulates immediately. I have to run continuously, sometimes eating a quick bread on the bus," Mr. Minh recounted.
Despite the hardship, many workers still encourage each other to try their best. "Seeing the streets clean on the morning of the 1st, people happily going out for Tet, I also feel happy," Mr. Minh added.
According to Nha Trang Environment and Urban Joint Stock Company, Tet is a time when the amount of domestic waste increases by 20-30% compared to normal days, concentrated in residential areas, markets, and public entertainment areas. Therefore, in addition to increasing personnel and vehicles, the unit also arranges rapid response teams to handle unexpected points.
Mr. Nguyen Hung Thanh - General Director of Nha Trang Environment and Urban Joint Stock Company - said that 700 workers have been mobilized to work throughout the Lunar New Year 2026 to ensure environmental sanitation before, during and after Tet in all wards.
To be proactive in the face of the sharp increase in domestic waste at the end of the year, the unit has arranged for all 700 workers directly in the environmental field to participate in Tet duty. Along with that are 27 specialized garbage compactors, 8 alley garbage collection vehicles and 750 hand-pulled garbage trucks operating continuously.
In addition to the available forces and vehicles, the company also hires additional mechanical vehicles such as excavators, excavators, 7-ton and 15-ton trucks to strengthen garbage collection and transportation, not letting garbage accumulate overnight, especially on the night of the 30th and morning of the 1st day of Tet.
Mr. Nguyen Hung Thanh said that the goal is not to let garbage accumulate for too long, especially in central areas, main roads, and crowded residential areas.
We identify this as a political task, contributing to preserving urban beauty and creating a beautiful image for the locality in the eyes of people and tourists," Mr. Thanh said.
In addition to the efforts of environmental workers, the company also hopes that people will raise awareness, litter in the right places, and collect at the right time to reduce pressure on workers during peak days.
