At the end of the 4-day New Year's holiday in 2026, on January 4, the number of people from provinces and cities returning to Hanoi increased sharply, causing many gateways and main traffic routes of the capital to be crowded. Facing great pressure from vehicles, the Hanoi City Police force has synchronously deployed plans to ensure traffic order and safety, minimizing the risk of congestion and accidents.

According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on the morning of January 4 at the southern, northern and northeastern gateways, the traffic of cars heading to the center of Hanoi City has increased rapidly since early morning. At Phap Van - Cau Gie Expressway, Ring Road 3, vehicles move in a row, with high density but still maintain a stable traffic flow.

This year's New Year's holiday takes place from January 1 to January 4, 2026, longer than usual, so many people proactively arrange time to return to the capital early to avoid congestion and prepare for the new working week. Mr. Nguyen Van Sang (from Ha Tinh) said that he returned to Hanoi from the evening of January 3 to avoid the peak season. "Today's weather is dry, cold but no rain, so traveling is more convenient. I chose to go early to have time to rest before going to work, Mr. Sang shared.

In the face of the situation of a large number of vehicles, the Traffic Police (CSGT) and functional units have increased their duties at toll stations, key intersections and gateway routes. Traffic police regularly divert traffic, guide vehicles, and limit conflicts between straight-traffic and turn-off vehicles, especially at points connecting to Ring Road 3.

According to the Traffic Police Department, on the last day of the 2026 New Year's holiday, the city's traffic police force maintains 24/7 duty, focusing on gateways to ensure people travel safely and smoothly. With the motto "active early, remote", regulatory options are flexibly implemented, avoiding prolonged congestion.

At the southern gateway of the capital, Road Traffic Police Team No. 14 maintains a regular force, organizes traffic flow, and regulates traffic continuously. The unit also applies an AI camera system to accurately measure vehicle traffic, thereby adjusting the signal light cycle to suit the actual situation, reducing pressure on intersections.

The authorities recommend that people absolutely follow the correct route and lane; strictly follow the message "Do not drive after drinking alcohol"; fully comply with the instructions and regulations of the traffic police at the scene to ensure safety for themselves and the community.

In addition to traffic diversion and regulation, the Traffic Police force still maintains inspections and strictly handles violations, especially in passenger transport activities. This is a type of heavy-duty vehicle, even a small mistake can lead to serious consequences. Violations are handled in a centralized manner, including: driving a vehicle while consuming alcohol, carrying more people than the prescribed number, stopping and picking up and dropping off passengers in the wrong place.

A representative of Road Traffic Police Team No. 14 said that the authorities are determined to handle acts such as stuffing passengers, stopping to pick up and drop off passengers in violation of regulations, and transporting goods in the passenger compartment, causing unsafety. During the holiday, the unit maintains 100% of its personnel on key routes, determined not to let the situation of illegal pick-up and drop-off of customers affect the general traffic flow.
