LD25003: The old lady in her 70s is sick and lives by community

In the first days of the new year 2025, we visited Mrs. Chinh's house. The space was quiet and sad, she was lying there suffering pain in her two legs.

Ms. Le Thi Chinh said that in June 2024, she started to have severe abdominal pain. After going to the doctor, the doctor diagnosed a bacterial intestinal infection, but treatment did not cure it. She was then transferred to the provincial hospital.

Here, the test results showed that she had a sepsis accompanied by diabetes and knee degenerative degeneration, causing her to be exhausted and unable to walk.

Mrs. Chinh confided that before, she and her son lived by a job. Currently, her son also has rectal cancer and works for hire in Tien Giang province, but sometimes, sometimes, because he often develops the disease, his income is very low.

"There is health insurance but we have to pay 20% of medical examination and treatment costs along with other expenses other than health insurance, so during the recent hospital stay, we had to borrow nearly 40 million VND to have money for treatment. Now that I have overcome the critical stage, I have been discharged home from the hospital but do not have money for re-examination," Ms. Chinh added.

Mrs. Muoi Khe, who lives near Mrs. Chinh's house, said that Mrs. Chinh is currently lying in one place, and all her eating and cleaning activities are taken care of by her niece (called she).

According to Ms. Khe, on days when the girl can't come, neighbors come to help Ms. Chinh clean her personal hygiene and prepare meals.

"We often visit, share, and comfort Mrs. Chinh to help her feel less sad as well as give her some fruits and cakes to eat at noon and when she is sad," Ms. Khe added.

Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Quang Khiem - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quoi An commune - said that there are currently 6 poor households, 43 near-poor households, Ms. Chinh's family is a poor family.

According to Mr. Khiem, in October 2024, the People's Committee of the commune has just considered giving Ms. Le Thi Chinh a monthly allowance, the support level is 1 million VND/month.

In recent times, especially during the Lunar New Year of At Ty, the People's Committee of the commune has prioritized many gifts from benefactors to the locality to support the poor, near-poor and disadvantaged families, helping Mrs. Chinh to happily celebrate Tet.

"In the coming time, the Commune People's Committee will continue to prioritize supporting Mrs. Chinh's family during holidays, Tet and gifts from benefactors coming to give to the locality," Mr. Khiem added.
