Vinh Long - The Trade Union social housing construction site management board in Giao Long commune proactively adjusts working hours to ensure the health of 125 workers in the hot sun.

Adjusting working hours to suit actual weather

For more than 10 days, hot weather has clearly affected the working conditions of workers at the social housing project of Giao Long Commune Trade Union, Vinh Long province.

Currently, there are about 125 workers at the construction site constructing many different items, the Management Board has proactively adjusted working hours to suit actual weather developments.

In which, the afternoon time is postponed to start working to avoid the harshest sunny time of the day, contributing to reducing heat pressure for workers directly constructing outdoors.

Mr. Ha Manh Cuong - Head of the Construction Site Management Board - said that the adjustment of working hours still ensures a total working time of 8 hours per day for workers.

According to Mr. Cuong, to avoid the heat, the construction site arranges to work in the morning from 6am to 10am and in the afternoon from 2pm to 6pm, suitable for the actual conditions at the construction site.

This time frame helps workers limit exposure to harsh sunlight, while still ensuring construction progress according to the set plan," he added.

The Construction Site Management Board also requested teams to rearrange work reasonably, prioritizing the implementation of heavy items in the morning or late afternoon when the weather is softer.

In addition, the unit arranges mid-hour rest areas with roofs and equips drinking water at many locations on the construction site for workers to conveniently use.

Measures to ensure labor safety continue to be strengthened such as reminding workers to take reasonable breaks, equipping them with full protection and monitoring workers' health in hot weather conditions.

Reduce heat pressure, increase work efficiency

Worker Le Thanh Thao said that prolonged hot days make outdoor work difficult, especially in the early afternoon when the sun is harsh.

According to Ms. Thao, adjusting working hours helps workers have more lunch break time, thereby restoring their health before entering the afternoon shift.

When starting work later, the weather is milder, so fatigue is significantly reduced, helping us maintain our spirit and work efficiency," Ms. Thao said.

Worker Tran Manh Ha said that before, working in the early afternoon often encountered harsh sun, easily losing strength and affecting the construction progress at the construction site.

According to Mr. Ha, delaying work hours helps workers avoid the highest sunshine time of the day, thereby reducing the risk of sunstroke when working outdoors.

When we have more rest time, we eat more fully, improve fitness and maintain more stable work performance throughout the shift," Mr. Ha added.

In addition to adjusting working hours, arranging a roofed rest area and providing cool drinking water helps workers conveniently cool down and feel secure working in harsh weather conditions.

The flexible adjustment of working hours along with support solutions has helped the construction site maintain construction progress, while ensuring the health of workers.
