The Moc Duc ritual (Bathing Buddha) is one of the important rituals during the Buddha's Birthday season, recreating the event of nine dragons spraying water to bathe Prince Siddhartha when he was born.
In Buddhism, using fragrant water to pour on the statue of the Newborn Buddha is not simply a formal ritual, but also reminds each person to wash away greed, anger, and delusion in their hearts, nurture compassion and wisdom. Each bucket of water offered to the Buddha statue is a vows to live virtuously, towards purity in thought, words and actions.
