1,000 Tet gifts for workers far from home

Prioritizing people without conditions to return to their hometowns

Mr. Le Van Dai - Permanent Vice President of the Da Nang City Labor Federation - said: As part of a series of activities to care for Tet for union members and workers on the occasion of Binh Ngo Tet, the Da Nang City Labor Federation will give 1,000 gifts to workers at the self-managed workers' group of the boarding house. Each gift is cash of 1 million VND and will be sent to the workers.

The subjects receiving this gift include: Women workers who are single and raising young children, in difficult circumstances, residing at the self-managed workers' group of boarding houses and workers' housing in Hoa Cam Industrial Park, giving priority to those who do not have the conditions to return to their hometowns and have to stay in Da Nang to celebrate Tet. In this program, the Da Nang City Labor Federation organized delegations to visit and give gifts at the workers' residences from the 23rd to the 27th of Tet. The City Labor Federation also organized a meeting, encouragement and gratitude program for the Executive Board of the Self-managed Workers' Group of the boarding house.

Ms. Le Thi Be (worker at Foster Electronics Co., Ltd., Hoa Cam Industrial Park) could not hide her excitement. "Hopefully this year I will have a gift from the Union," she said. Ms. Be is a single mother raising 2 young children, currently living at a rented house. Although her hometown is Phu Loc in Hue city, less than 60km from Da Nang, for many years now, every year during Tet, she has decided not to return due to financial difficulties. "Tet is very sad when away from home. However, thanks to the gifts and the encouragement and care of the Trade Union organization, I still feel the same warmth, said Ms. Be.

Not only the Trade Union cares about workers

The program of giving gifts to workers at the self-managed workers' group of boarding houses and workers' housing has been maintained regularly by the Da Nang City Labor Federation for many years. The special thing is that in recent years, in addition to the leaders of the City Labor Federation visiting, many worker households residing in self-managed workers' groups in boarding houses have also been regularly visited, encouraged and given gifts by leaders of the City Party Committee and People's Committee of Da Nang City during Tet holidays.

Workers like us are very touched and grateful to be welcomed by leaders of the Trade Union organization and the City Party Committee and People's Committee during Tet holidays. This shows the deep concern of the city's leaders for us - workers in difficult circumstances who do not have the conditions to return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet like other colleagues," said Ms. Duong Thi Mai (from Ha Tinh), a worker at an electronics company in Da Nang.

Ms. Mai said that both husband and wife are workers. For many years, because work and income in the following year are often more difficult than last year, the 3 children are of school age, and have high expenses, the family has always been in a state of shortage, so for the past few years, her family has stayed in Da Nang to celebrate Tet.

"The visits, words of encouragement and gifts from the Union and the city always make my family feel like Tet is not far from home," Ms. Mai confided.

"We organize visiting and gift-giving programs to help union members and workers in difficult circumstances, especially those who cannot return home for Tet but still feel the closeness and warmth of family love", Mr. Le Van Dai informed.
