1.06 million people unemployed in Q1/2026
According to the Vietnam Labor Market Bulletin, there were 1.06 million people of working age unemployed in the first quarter of 2026.
The Hanoi Employment Service Center said that the Institute of State Organization and Labor Science (Ministry of Home Affairs) has developed the quarterly Vietnam Labor Market Update Bulletin with the coordination of relevant units in the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Statistics Department (Ministry of Finance).
According to the Vietnam Labor Market Update Bulletin for the first quarter of 2026, the national labor force is 53.6 million people. The number of unemployed people of working age is 1.06 million people, down 5,500 people compared to the fourth quarter of 2025 and up 21,800 people compared to the same period in 2025. Notably, the unemployment rate among young people is 8.86%.
The unemployment rate among working-age people in urban areas is 2.46%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points compared to the fourth quarter of 2025.
Regarding the unemployment situation, the unemployment rate of workers of working age is 1.68%, equivalent to 786,700 people of working age lacking jobs.
Regarding job structure by sector: Agriculture, forestry and fishery account for 25.3%; processing and manufacturing industry accounts for 23.5%; wholesale and retail accounts for 13.7%; construction accounts for 9.2%; accommodation and catering services account for 6.3%; transportation and warehousing account for 4.5%; education and training account for 4%; other service activities account for 3.2%.
