HCMC activates a series of trillion-dong infrastructure projects
Along with the opening of Ring Road 3 technical traffic, Ho Chi Minh City will simultaneously start construction and break ground on a series of large-scale transport infrastructure projects on December 19, including: Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro, Youth Cultural House, Nguyen Khoi Bridge and Road, Ring Road 2, Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway.
Ring Road 3 is ready for technical traffic
On December 17, the elevated section of Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 passing through Vinhomes Grand Park urban area completed the installation of overpasses, girders, pouring concrete on the bridge deck and railings on both sides. Continuing this section, the main route through Long Binh ward, towards Tan Van intersection, has also been basically completed.
At the construction site, hundreds of machines and equipment were mobilized, along with about 500 - 600 workers and engineers working continuously day and night to keep up with the progress. The above items belong to the section east of Ring Road 3 with a length of 14.7km, currently reaching 85% of output, qualified for technical traffic opening on December 19.
At the same time, other sections of Ring Road 3 will also be technically open to traffic, including: 5km through Dong Nai, 3.1km through the former Binh Duong and 6.4km through Tay Ninh.
simultaneously starting construction of key projects
In parallel with Ring Road 3, Ho Chi Minh City will start construction of many major traffic projects on December 19. Notably, the Nguyen Khoi bridge and road project with a total investment of VND 3,724 billion, nearly 5km long, including a road system and overpasses of Te Canal and Ben Nghe Canal. The project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2027, contributing to reducing the load on the Nguyen Huu Tho axes - Kenh Te bridge, Duong Ba Trac and Nguyen Tat Thanh.
In the East, two sections of Ring Road 2 with a total length of nearly 6km will also be started, including: Section 1 is over 3.5km long (from Phu Huu Bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue), Section 2 is nearly 2.5km long (from Vo Nguyen Giap to Pham Van Dong). The total investment of the two projects is nearly 13,900 billion VND, expected to be completed in 2027, helping to form a smooth traffic axis, connecting major routes and the seaport system, reducing congestion in the inner city area.
On the same day, component 2 (about VND 2,422 billion in state budget capital) of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway project will start construction. The project will build 20km of service road through Ho Chi Minh City and more than 23km through Tay Ninh, along with 16 expressway overpasses and 10 underpasses for people.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway is nearly 51km long, with a total investment of more than VND 19,600 billion. The main expressway is being implemented under the BOT form with a capital of more than VND 10,400 billion, expected to start construction in the first quarter of 2026 and be completed by the end of 2027. When put into operation, the route will contribute to reducing the load on National Highway 22, enhancing synchronous connectivity with Ho Chi Minh City's belt routes, creating conditions for safe and high-speed traffic on the Ho Chi Minh City - Tay Ninh transport corridor.
Not only significant in terms of transportation, the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway also plays an important role in the formation of the industrial - urban chain Moc Bai - Ho Chi Minh City - Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port, associated with the Xuyen A Economic Corridor, thereby promoting the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh and the entire Southeast region.
Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro groundbreaking ceremony
Notably, the Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro project will also have a groundbreaking ceremony on December 19, invested by VinSpeed High-Speed Railway Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (under Vingroup Corporation).
The metro line is about 54km long, standard double track, 1,435mm track gauge, maximum design speed of 350km/h. The total preliminary investment is about VND 102,430 billion, excluding site clearance costs of about VND 12,784 billion allocated by the state budget.
When put into operation, the Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro is expected to significantly shorten travel time, from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Can Gio in just about 20 minutes, opening up new development space for the southern area of Ho Chi Minh City, especially the Can Gio area.
