General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong congratulates the new President of the Republic of Korea

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that on the occasion of Mr. Lee Jae Myung being elected as the 21st President of the Doi Nam Quoc Korea, on June 4, 2025, General Secretary To Lam and Politburo member and President Luong Cuong sent a congratulatory message.

In the telegrams, General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong expressed his confidence that with the prestige, bravery and strategic vision of President Lee Jae Myung, Korea will continue to develop strongly, achieve even greater achievements, and affirm Korea's international role and position in the coming time.

General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong affirmed his readiness to work with the President and the South Korean country to continue promoting the development of bilateral relations to be more substantial, effective and comprehensive for the benefit of the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

On the same day, Politburo member and Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu sent a congratulatory message to Mr. Park Chan Dae, Acting Chairman of the Accompanying Democratic Party.

On June 4, new President Lee Jae Myung officially began his term after a simple inauguration ceremony at the National Assembly headquarters.

In his inauguration speech, President Lee Jae Myung set out three clear foundations: Ethnic solidarity, economic recovery and the pursuit of applied diplomacy.

President Lee Jae Myung pledged to adopt an applicable and market-oriented approach to recover growth and promote advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors.

The new President announced that he will strengthen cooperation between Korea - US - Japan based on a strong Korea - US alliance and an approach to relations with neighboring countries from a practical perspective and national interests. He said he would open communication channels and pursue dialogue and cooperation with Pyongyang to build long-term peace on the Korean Peninsula.

On his first day in office, President Lee Jae Myung made a series of important appointments. His nominee for Prime Minister was Kim Min Seok, a four-term lawmaker who was a student activist and played a key role in the election campaign.

He also nominated former United Nations Minister Lee Jong Seok as Director of the National Intelligence Service.

In addition, key positions in the presidential office are also filled by familiar faces: Mr. Kang Hoon Sik as Chief of Staff, veteran diplomat Wi Sung Lac as National Security Advisor, and nghiist DP Kang Yu Jung, appointed as the President's Spokesperson.
