Retired military officers can be supported with twice the basic salary

This is the content stipulated in Decree No. 343/2025/ND-CP of the Government on nursing care, care when suffering from serious illnesses, information regime, and funeral support when passing away for retired military officers.

The Decree stipulates that retired military officers who suffer from one of the diseases on the list of serious diseases as prescribed by the Minister of Health will be examined for examination and assessment of serious diseases. If the competent Medical Assessment Council consists of a serious illness as prescribed by the Ministry of National Defense, they will enjoy the following regimes and policies:

Quarterly support is equal to 2 times the basic salary. The time of receiving benefits is calculated quarterly and the Medical Assessment Council concludes that the disease is serious.

When receiving inpatient treatment at medical examination and treatment facilities inside and outside the Army, they are guaranteed a difference in medical meals compared to basic meals for infantrymen according to the provisions of the law on standards for logistics for active service soldiers.

In case of inpatient treatment at medical examination and treatment facilities in the Army paid by medical examination and treatment facilities; in case of inpatient treatment at medical examination and treatment facilities outside the Army, the Hanoi Capital Command or the Provincial Military Command where the military officer is temporarily stationary is paid directly according to the actual number of treatment days confirmed in the discharge paper;

In case of enjoying the above regimes and policies to settle abroad or leaving the ceiling or violating discipline and law, if they are one of the cases where retired military officers are being detained; serving a prison sentence; being sentenced for one of the crimes of violating national security; removing all positions in the Party or expelling from the Party or removing all held positions or revoking the title of soldier, they will not be entitled to this regulation from the second quarter of the quarter of the quarter of settling abroad or from the ceiling or violating the discipline and law to be handled.

In case a military officer before retirement has been recognized by competent authorities as suffering from a serious illness, upon retirement, he/she will receive quarterly support and the policy according to the above regulations. The time of support is calculated from the quarter starting to receive pension, the benefit level is equal to the support level of the whole quarter starting to receive pension.

In case a retired military officer has been examined by a Medical Assessment Council and found to have a serious illness but has not yet been issued a decision by a competent authority to enjoy the serious illness support regime, but has died, relatives will receive a one-time support equal to 2 times the basic salary.

The regime settlement dossier includes:

- Submit a request for medical examination to enjoy the regime of support for serious illnesses of the subject or relatives according to Form No. 01 in the Appendix issued with this Decree;

- Original (paper copy) or electronic copy of Summary of medical records for treating serious diseases of hospitals inside or outside the Army;

- cope or electronic copy of the decision on receiving monthly pension benefits.

This Decree takes effect from January 1, 2026.
