Full-time holiday: Proposal to add 1 day to the Labor Code
The addition of "Vietnam Cultural Day" on November 24 to a full-time paid holiday is being proposed to be included in the Labor Code.
On behalf of the Politburo, General Secretary To Lam signed and issued Resolution 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the development of Vietnamese culture.
In which the resolution emphasizes the common choice of November 24 every year as "Vietnam Cultural Day", a holiday, where workers are entitled to full salary.
Thereby, people are able to enjoy culture, artists are encouraged to be creative, the whole society promotes, and practice a cultural and civilized lifestyle.
According to Lao Dong reporter's research, the Department of Employment has sent an official dispatch to the Legal Department (Ministry of Home Affairs) on the proposal to include this content in the work of amending and supplementing the 2019 Labor Code. This is to institutionalize the Politburo's policy.
Previously, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) - said that immediately after receiving Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW through the press, the VGCL informed, shared and collected feedback from union members and workers.
With more than 85,000 people having their opinions consulted, more than 95% expressed their great joy and agreement with the content of the Resolution agreeing to choose November 24 every year as "Vietnam Cultural Day", this day for workers to take a day off and receive full pay. The rest, the workers also expressed their agreement with this new day off.
Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu said that there are no specific plans, but the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will certainly consider this an opportunity to organize activities to improve the spiritual and cultural life of union members and workers - a group that lacks many conditions to enjoy spiritual and cultural values, including the reason for time.
This is a very good opportunity to organize cultural and sports playgrounds, bring workers to historical and cultural relics in the area or spend time with family members to share and honor Vietnamese family cultural values.
According to the 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to a total of 11 official holidays and Tet holidays, receiving full pay, including New Year's Day, Lunar New Year, Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, Victory Day April 30, International Labor Day 1.5 and National Day September 2. After institutionalizing the Politburo's policy, in 2026, there will be 1 more day off, bringing the number of days off to 12 days.
