Metro No. 1 exceeds 20.5 million passengers, people hope to have a new route

Obviously, people are ready to change their travel habits if provided with a convenient, punctual, safe and civilized means of transportation.

Since its operation, Metro Line 1 has gradually increased passengers, due to people's habits, especially the convenience and efficiency of this type of vehicle.

On December 31, 2025 alone, metro No. 1 brought more than 90,000 passengers to the central area for entertainment.

The arrangement of trains running until the early morning of January 1, 2026 shows the ability to organize and operate flexibly, closely following the actual needs of the people, something that Ho Chi Minh City's public transport has long lacked.

The initial success of Metro No. 1 is significant beyond the scope of a transport project. That is the measure of people's trust in public transport projects.

When the metro operates stably and in accordance with the commitment, people not only use it but also support and accompany it.

Previously, there were many opinions that people were not interested in public transportation and had the habit of using personal vehicles.

However, the actual exploitation of Metro Line 1 shows that the problem is not people's awareness, but the quality of services and organizational capacity. When there is a civilized and effective transportation product, people will choose it.

The effective operation of Metro Line 1 has further accelerated the construction of other metro lines. Ho Chi Minh City has a population of more than 10 million, a metro line less than 20 km long can only solve a very small part of the travel needs.

Ho Chi Minh City's goal of implementing 6 metro lines simultaneously before 2030 and completing a network of 7 355 km long lines by 2035 is a necessary vision, but what people are waiting for is the ability to turn that vision into reality.

Therefore, shortening the construction time of metro No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) to about 5 years is not only a technical goal, but an exam on institutional reform, project management and the sense of responsibility of managers.

If the metro lines are completed as planned, people will choose to travel, minimizing traffic jams and environmental pollution.

More importantly, metro will contribute to forming a civilized urban lifestyle, where public transport becomes a priority choice, not a temporary solution.

Metro No. 1 has proven that doing the right thing will be supported by the people.

People hope to have many new metro lines soon, the remaining problem is the government's ability to implement projects.
