Special fireworks display at Hoan Kiem Lake to welcome the New Year 2026
Hanoi - Fireworks will be launched from 3 locations between Hoan Kiem Lake at the moment of transition between the old year and the new year.
On the occasion of New Year 2026, Hanoi will arrange 5 areas with a total of 6 high-altitude fireworks display sites combining low-altitude and fireworks.
Fireworks will be launched for 15 minutes, from 11:45 p.m. on December 31, 2025 to 0:00 a.m. on January 1, 2026.
Fireworks display locations include: Two locations in Hoan Kiem ward (in front of the Hanoi Moi Newspaper headquarters and in front of the Hanoi Post Office); Thong Nhat Park coconut island (Hai Ba Trung ward); F1 track (Tu Liem ward); Lac Long Quan flower garden (Tay Ho ward) and Van Quan lake (Ha Dong ward).
At the two locations in Hoan Kiem Lake alone, each location has 700 high-altitude fireworks; low-altitude fireworks each location has 60 displays and many fireworks displays.
This year, for the first time, people in the capital will be able to watch fireworks being launched from 3 locations in the middle of Hoan Kiem Lake.
According to Lao Dong on December 30, at the fireworks display site in Hoan Kiem Lake area, officers and soldiers of the 3rd - Hong Ha Defense Command (Hanoi Capital Command) have completed the installation of the launch pipe system.
On December 31, officers and soldiers will continue to link fireworks according to the scenario.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Viet Hoa, Commander of the Defense Command of Region 3 - Hong Ha, said: Implementing the direction of the City and the Hanoi Capital Command, officers and soldiers of the unit are actively and urgently completing the preparation stages, installing fireworks displays, ensuring successful and safe fireworks displays.
Inspecting the preparation of units at the fireworks display in Hoan Kiem Lake area on December 30, Major General Luu Nam Tien, Political Commissar of the Hanoi Command, noted that officers and soldiers of the units must uphold their responsibility, strictly comply with military discipline and regulations of the unit, effectively implement the patrol and guarding regime, maintain political security, order and social safety; prevent and fight fires and explosions, ensure absolute safety before, during and after fireworks, contributing to serving people to visit and welcome the new year 2026 happily and safely.
This year, in addition to fireworks, Hanoi City also organized the New Year 2026 (Countdown 2026) program with the theme " Opening Real Connections", taking place from 7:00 p.m. to 0:00 a.m. on December 31, 2025 at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and Hoan Kiem Lake walking street space.
According to a survey by Lao Dong, the New Year's holiday in 2026 lasts 4 days, but many families and young people still decide to stay in Hanoi during the holiday.
"The city these days is very beautiful, decorated with flags and flowers. On the evening of December 31, I will go to see Countdown, set off fireworks at Hoan Kiem Lake walking street, and in the first days of the new year, I will meet and chat with friends. That vacation is complete for me" - Mr. Tran Dinh Bao (25 years old, Tu Liem ward) said.
In An Khanh commune, Mr. Nguyen Van Hai (40 years old) said he will go to Hoan Kiem lake with his wife and 2 children to join in the New Year's atmosphere here.
"The children are eagerly waiting for the fireworks display at the moment of transition between the old year and the new year. Hopefully, people will be able to admire the eye-catching fireworks display, brightly shining in the sky of the capital" - Mr. Hai said.
