Hopefully, the HC1-02 underpass at An Phu intersection will reach the finish line on time
The N2 overpass branch under the An Phu intersection construction project (HCMC) was officially opened to traffic on the evening of December 31.
Putting this branch of the bridge into operation will separate traffic flows from the highway to the city center, reducing traffic conflicts at the An Phu intersection.
The N2 overpass branch opens to traffic, a positive signal after many years of people in Ho Chi Minh City having to endure many traffic jams at the eastern gateway.
In the context of Ho Chi Minh City's traffic infrastructure always "changing" the speed of increasing vehicles, adding an additional branch of the bridge at a key intersection to exploit is a remarkable effort.
When the An Phu intersection is cleared through one branch, at least no vehicles are concentrated on the expressway for kilometers during peak times.
However, if we only stop at the initial excitement, it is too early.
In reality, the N2 overpass branch put into operation only partially resolves the problem of vehicles from the expressway flowing out at the An Phu intersection.
Meanwhile, An Phu intersection is still a convergence point for many large traffic routes from Mai Chi Tho expressway, Luong Dinh Cua street, Nguyen Thi Dinh street and towards Cat Lai port. When one link is not complete, traffic pressure is immediately concentrated on the remaining branches.
In particular, as the Lunar New Year approaches, travel demand increases dramatically, while many items are still under construction. That shows that the risk of serious congestion is inevitable.
According to the plan of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, after the N2 bridge branch is completed, the HC1-02 underpass is expected to be put into operation before January 15, 2026.
This is the information that people are waiting for. Because, when there is an additional underpass, traffic congestion at the An Phu intersection will certainly be reduced.
People's concern and interest in transport infrastructure projects shows the responsibility of managers. That is, each delay milestone is not just a number on paper, but is measured by the time, cost and fatigue of people each day.
People do not want to hear promises, what they need is that key traffic projects must be completed on schedule, operated synchronously, and promoted effectively.
The opening of the N2 bridge branch is very important, but cannot be considered a complete success. Only when the entire An Phu intersection is completed and traffic is smooth both above and below the tunnel, will the obsession of traffic jams over the years be truly relieved.
Not to mention, the An Phu intersection is completed, and convenient traffic will help the expressway connect to Long Thanh airport smoothly.
Hopefully, the HC1-02 underpass will be completed on time.
