New structure of the Ministry of Science and Technology after the merger
After the merger, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MTST) will have 25 units, including 22 administrative organizations and 3 public service units.
Decree No. 55/2025/ND-CP of the Government stipulates the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 22 administrative organizations under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The Ministry of Science and Technology has 37 tasks and powers, including: Responsible for submitting to the Government draft laws, resolutions of the National Assembly, decrees, resolutions of the National Assembly Standing Committee, as well as decrees according to the annual law-making plan and assigned projects and projects.

Regarding the provisions of the transition, the Decree, the Academy of Science, Technology and Innovation; Journal of Vietnam Science and Technology; Information and Communication Strategy Institute; Training and retraining schools for information and communication managers; Journal of Information and Communications, continue to operate until the Prime Minister issued a decision to stipulate the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Science and Technology Strategy Academy. The time for implementing this content shall not exceed 3 months from the effective decree.
The Department of Information Security may continue to operate to handle financial issues, state budget, public assets, programs and projects; personnel and other outstanding issues for a period of no more than 3 months from the effective date of the decree.
The Vietnamnet electronic newspaper will continue to operate until the competent authority approves the transfer of this agency under the Ministry of Ethnic Minorities and Religions. The Minister of Science and Technology will report to competent authorities for consideration and approval in March 2025.
Previously, on February 18, the National Assembly approved Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung to hold the position of Minister of Science and Technology.
