National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man welcomes and holds talks with New Zealand National Assembly Chairman

On August 28, at the National Assembly House, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Manda presided over the welcoming ceremony for New Zealand National Assembly Chairman Gerry Lee Brown. Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, the two National Assembly Chairmen held talks to discuss many important contents.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that the two sides continue to strengthen and tighten political relations through high-level visits and contacts, exchanging experiences between ministries, branches and localities of the two countries, enhancing exchanges between Committees, Friendship Parliamentary Groups, and Young Parliamentary Groups of the two countries; and requested the two countries' Foreign Ministries to soon complete the Action Program to implement Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to concretize the contents of the new relationship framework.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man suggested that New Zealand support training and capacity building for Vietnam in participating in United Nations peacekeeping activities.

The two sides are requested to take breakthrough measures to soon bring trade turnover to 3 billion USD by 2026, especially promoting mutual support in goods of the two countries to promote exports of products with advantages of each country; at the same time, making the most of the advantages from free trade agreements (FTAs) to which both countries are members.

The National Assembly Chairman emphasized cooperation in new areas such as green economy, digital economy, and energy transition, which are New Zealand's strengths; highly appreciated New Zealand's initiative on the Climate Change Agreement, Trade and Sustainability; expressed his desire to learn from New Zealand's experience in developing clean and high-tech agriculture.

The National Assembly Chairman also proposed that the two sides expand cooperation in education - training, labor, tourism, and opening direct flights to contribute to enhancing people-to-people exchanges, accordingly proposing that New Zealand increase the number of visa quotas issued to Vietnamese citizens participating in the Labor and holiday Program.

New Zealand National Assembly Chairman Gerry Brownlee sincerely congratulated the Government, National Assembly and people of Vietnam on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2, sharing his impression of the national pride of all Vietnamese people at a pivotal time for the country.

National Assembly Chairman Gerry Brownlee emphasized the role of the two countries' National Assemblies in listening to people's opinions, thereby contributing to strengthening people-to-people exchanges and friendship between the two countries; expressed his satisfaction at seeing the exchange of high-level delegations and all levels, the exchange and warm affection between the people of the two countries increasingly increase through education, tourism, trade and investment cooperation.

National Assembly Chairman Gerry Brownlee emphasized that in the context of many regional and global security challenges as at present, the two countries need to deepen bilateral relations; affirmed that New Zealand is ready to consider increasing imports of products with Vietnam's strengths to the New Zealand market, thereby helping the two countries' trade grow, soon reaching the target of 3 billion USD.
