Can Gio Bridge worth over VND13,200 billion broke ground this morning

On January 15, 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Can Gio Bridge Construction Investment Project. This is one of the key infrastructure - transportation projects of Ho Chi Minh City that started construction and broke ground on January 15 to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Party.

The project has a total length of about 6.3 km, designed with 6 lanes. In particular, the technical highlight is the main bridge over the Soai Rap River, nearly 3 km long, connecting Nha Be commune and Can Gio area. The total investment for this project is more than 13,200 billion VND.

Regarding the implementation roadmap, the project will be implemented in the period of 2025 - 2029. Construction work started in 2026 and is expected to be completed and put into synchronous operation in 2029 with the goal of ensuring the highest progress, quality and safety.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Cong Vinh, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed that the Can Gio Bridge Project is not only a key traffic project with a total investment of more than 13,200 billion VND, but also a symbol of the city's desire to reach the great sea.

According to the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, when completed, the project will replace Binh Khanh ferry, breaking the "oasis" situation, directly promoting the Can Gio area to become a new growth pole for marine economy and eco-tourism, effectively supporting the Can Gio International Transit Port in the future.

To realize this goal, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested departments, branches and localities to coordinate closely, creating all favorable conditions for the investor Masterise Group to implement the project on schedule, ensuring quality, aesthetics and absolute safety.

Present at the construction site in Nha Be commune early, Mr. Nguyen Van Ba (68 years old) could not hide his emotions. Living in this area for almost his entire life, he has witnessed many generations struggling to cross the river by ferry, especially during holidays and Tet when the line of cars waits in long lines. "Our people have been looking forward to this bridge for decades. Today, I am very happy to see the groundbreaking ceremony. So the dream of connecting the two banks is about to come true, and the travel and business of my children and grandchildren will be much more convenient in the future," Mr. Ba shared.

Sharing the same excitement, Ms. Le Thi Thu Ha (32 years old), who often travels between Nha Be and Can Gio, said that Can Gio bridge is the greatest wish of the people in the area. "With bridges, travel time will be shortened, going to work or trading will be safer and faster, no longer worrying about ferry jams or wind and rain," said Ms. Ha.

The project investor representative, Masterise Group, affirmed that they clearly recognize the strategic importance of this project to the development of Ho Chi Minh City. At the groundbreaking ceremony, the investor's representative pledged to focus maximum resources, human resources and the most modern equipment to implement the project. Masterise Group aims to construct safely, ensuring the highest technical quality and is determined to put the project into operation on schedule by 2029, meeting the expectations of the government and people of Ho Chi Minh City.

The groundbreaking event of Can Gio Bridge marks a historic milestone in Ho Chi Minh City's transport infrastructure. Not only helping to complete the regional linkage network, the project also opens up new urban development space towards the Southeast sea.

In the future, when Can Gio Bridge is completed, combined with the conservation of the mangrove reserve, this area will become a large-scale tourism, ecological and resort urban area, contributing to realizing the goal of developing Ho Chi Minh City according to the sustainable multi-center model.
