Can Tho - Wind Power Plant No. 7 Phase 2 provides electricity output for the electricity system at an average annual rate of 271,198 MWh/year.

On December 19, the People's Committee of Can Tho City held the groundbreaking ceremony of Wind Power Plant No. 7, phase 2. This is one of 7 projects of Can Tho City that started construction, inaugurated, and opened technical traffic to projects and works to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Party.

Wind Power Plant No. 7 Phase 2 is located in the coastal area of Vinh Hai Commune, about 112km southeast of Can Tho City. The total investment is 3,728 billion VND. Expected to be completed and commercial power generation in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. To Duy - Chairman of the Board of Directors of ST2 Energy Joint Stock Company said - Phase 1 of Wind Power Plant No. 7 with a capacity of 30 MW has been completed and put into safe and effective operation right at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amidst the difficulties caused by social distance and disruptions in the global supply chain, wind turbines are still rising steadily, contributing clean power to the national grid.

"The project is a clear demonstration of the companionship, responsibility and determination of the business community in realizing the policy of developing clean energy and renewable energy, contributing to the implementation of the Vietnamese Government's Net Zero commitment by 2050", Mr. Duy emphasized.

Mr. Duy added that the Project to build the No. 7 Wind Power Plant, phase 2, has a total installed capacity of about 90 MW, with 19 wind turbine towers, a capacity of 4.7 MW/tua-bin and is connected to the National Power System via 110kV power supply at the 110kV Transformer Station of the No. 7 Wind Power Plant. The project provides an average annual electricity output for the power system of 271,198 MWh/year, which will meet the electricity demand in the area, reduce the power shortage of the National Power System, and serve economic and social development.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Tran Chi Hung - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee affirmed - The No. 7 Wind Power Plant Project, phase 2, is a project of special significance to Can Tho City. The project contributes to adding a clean and stable source of energy to the Mekong Delta power system. Ensure national energy security and create strong development momentum for coastal areas, promote economic restructuring, improve the investment environment, and create more jobs for local workers. In particular, it will contribute significantly to budget revenue and attract strategic investors in the energy, infrastructure and urban sectors in the coming time.

At the same time, in Ngoc To commune (Can Tho city), the People's Committee of Can Tho city also organized the technical opening of the East-West economic development axis road.

The East-West axis route passes through Nga Nam town, Thanh Tri district, My Xuyen district and Vinh Chau town (old Soc Trang province) directly connecting with Hau Giang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau and Can Tho provinces before the merger. The project will build new, expand and upgrade nearly 57km of road, 44 bridges, 50 culverts and 6 important intersections. The total investment is 2,000 billion VND from the central budget and local budget counterpart.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Tri - Chairman of the People's Committee of Ngoc To commune (Can Tho city) said that when put into operation, the route will form a complete traffic network, creating conditions for fast and convenient transportation of goods, especially fragrant rice, clean shrimp and seafood from the production area to large cities such as Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City and seaports. The project also seamlessly connects with National Highway 1A, Quan Lo - Phung Hiep, provincial routes 940, 935, 936 and the Shrimp - Rice Development Axis, thereby forming an important economic corridor for the entire Mekong Delta.

"For Ngoc To commune, the road not only promotes economic development but also contributes to improving the quality of life, ensuring national security and defense and opening up opportunities to access modern urban services, in the direction of rapid, effective and sustainable development," said Mr. Tri.

Can Tho City currently has 7 wind power projects in commercial operation with a total capacity of 340 MW; 2 projects are completing procedures to put into operation in 2025. In total, there are 30 wind power projects (2,752 MW) in the area, of which 11 new projects with 1,407 MW of capacity are added in the adjusted Power Plan VIII.
