Ministry of Education and Training tightens input quality for microchips and semiconductors
Students must achieve a total score of three subjects in a combination of 24/30 or higher, at least 8 points in Math to register for semiconductor microchip majors.
The Ministry of Education and Training has just issued Decision No. 1314/QD-BGDDT on Typing the training program on semiconductor microchips at the undergraduate and master's level.
Standards the semiconductor microchip program applicable to higher education institutions participating in the implementation of the Program "Developing human resources for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050" according to Decision No. 1017/QD-TTg dated September 21, 2024 of the Prime Minister.
This is the basis for higher education institutions to build, review, and update training programs on semiconductor microchips, and report to the Ministry before enrollment.
According to the new regulations, candidates who want to study a bachelor's degree or engineering in semiconductor microchips must use a combination of Math and at least one Natural Science subject suitable for the training program.
In addition, the total score of the subjects reaches at least 80% of the consideration scale, for example, the minimum is 24/30 for a combination of three subjects. In which, the score for the Math exam reaches at least 80% of the scale, equivalent to 8/10.
Compared to the draft, the Ministry no longer requires each Math, Physics, and Chemistry subject to score over 8. For example, candidates according to the group A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry) with Math 9, Physics 8, Chemistry 7 are still eligible to register for admission.
If using another method, the conversion admission score must be equivalent.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the development of Decision 1314 involved experts and scientists on semiconductor microchips; widely consulted with training institutions, employers and graduates related to semiconductor microchips; and consulted with requirements for corresponding training programs of countries and territories with developed economies such as the United States, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Japan, Korea, Taiwan (China).
Standards of training programs are the basis for training institutions to develop and organize the implementation of training programs on semiconductor microchips. This standard is also the foundation for designing and implementing major - sub-disciplinary programs, bilateral or interdisciplinary in semiconductor microchips.
Based on training orientation and practical conditions, training institutions can build a partial or full English curriculum to improve foreign language learning proficiency for learners and gradually approach international standards.
To meet the needs of semiconductor human resources, in 2025, a series of universities will open new training majors such as the University of Technology, Vietnam - Japan University (Hanoi National University), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, etc.
