Turning plastic waste into health insurance cards for disadvantaged students

Amidst the worries of life, the "Little Plan House" quietly grows from recycled plastic bottles crystallized from the fragrant heart of Vinh Long students. It is not only a scrap collection point, but has become a symbol of sharing, nurturing hope and bringing the warmth of humanity through health insurance cards to thousands of students in difficult circumstances.

In a simple but warm joy, Le Thi Cam Hong, a 5th grade student whose mother has a heart disease and often sells lottery tickets to make a living - said that she thanked her teachers and students for helping her get health insurance. I will be less worried when you are sick.

"This small card is not only a material support, but also a way to relieve the burden, a hope in life for the whole family, when there is still help from the community when facing difficulties", Hong added.

Sharing the same joy and awareness, Tran Minh Thong, a 5th grade student at Phu Duc Primary School, Long Ho District, innocently shared: "On the way to school, I saw plastic bottles, so I stopped the car and picked them up to bring to the school for sale. Both protecting the environment and having more money to help you in trouble".

Mr. Nguyen Hung Phong - Head of the Tan Hoi A Primary School Team, Mang Thit District - said that in the beginning, students actively participated, from awareness of protecting the environment where they studied to supporting students in difficult circumstances.

"Through propaganda work, we commend students who have a positive spirit in implementing the "Little Plan House" model, which has created more influence," Mr. Phong added.

Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tuan - Chairman of the Vinh Long Provincial Youth Union, said that the "Little Plan House" model was originated from Long Ho District Youth Union more than 5 years ago. Currently, many schools have learned and implemented it.

In the 2023 - 2024 school year, the whole province has 207 Lien Than deploying this model, earning more than 513 million VND from the sale of scrap, mainly plastic waste. From this fund, the School Council has supported the purchase of health insurance for 3,917 students in difficult circumstances in the whole province.

According to Mr. Tuan, the model not only brings practical results in terms of material things but also contributes to raising awareness of environmental protection and the spirit of mutual love in the student community.

"In the coming time, we will continue to expand and diversify forms, not only stopping at collecting scrap but also focusing on large-scale fundraising activities such as organizing secondhand markets, fundraising art and sports activities, mobilizing the cooperation of organizations, businesses and the community," Mr. Tuan emphasized.
