An Giang border residents warmly welcome Tet 2026 in new homes
An Giang - Border residents in An Giang are supported to build new houses, feel secure and stabilize their lives during the 2026 Lunar New Year.
In Phu Huu commune (An Giang province), where the lives of border residents are still difficult, having a decent house was once a luxury dream for many households. Most of them make a living by making for hire, with unstable income.
For many years, many families have had to live in temporary houses built with old corrugated iron and leafy walls. Every rainy season, the fear of roof leakage comes. For them, Tet is not only a story of cakes, jams, and gathering together, but also a concern "if the house is safe enough for the whole family to welcome spring".
This year's Tet, that worry has eased. Thanks to the attention of authorities at all levels, the Fatherland Front and the cooperation of philanthropists, charity houses have been handed over to coastal households with difficult housing circumstances. Each house is not only a material asset, but also a spiritual support to help people feel secure in settling down and gradually starting a business.

In the newly handed over house, Ms. Ho Thi My Trinh (residing in Vinh Phuoc Hamlet, Phu Huu Commune) said that before, just when it rained, the house leaked, sleeping at night and worrying. "I work for free, with an unstable income. Sometimes I thought I would not dare to dream of having a decent house like this for the rest of my life, said Ms. Trinh.
According to Ms. Trinh, this year's Tet is probably the warmest Tet ever. Not only because of a solid roof that protects against the rain and sun, but also because of the feeling of caring and sharing. "With a house, I feel more secure in doing business. This Tet, sleeping will feel warmer, said Ms. Trinh.
Receiving a charity house before Tet, Mr. Tran Huu Luan (26 years old, living in Phu Thanh hamlet, Phu Huu commune) shared: "We have a house, my husband and I discuss trying to do business and save a little. Only when I have a stable place to live dare to think about long-term things
According to Mr. Luan, the house not only helps the family avoid the sun and rain, but also helps children have a more stable learning space.
Ms. Lam Thi Ngoc Giau - Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Huu commune (An Giang province) - shared: "Most of the households that were given charity houses are in difficult housing circumstances. Income mainly depends on unskilled, unstable labor. Housing support before Tet is not only humane, but also an important solution to help people stabilize their lives in the long term.

Ms. Giau also informed that from the beginning of 2026 until now, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phu Huu commune has coordinated with the Board of Directors of Hoa Hao Buddhist Sangha in Phu Huu commune to organize the handover of 2 charity houses to 2 households in the area. It is expected that this weekend, 3 charity houses will continue to be handed over to 3 households in the area.
Ms. Lam Thi Ngoc Giau shared that when there is a stable house, people feel secure in working and producing more. This is the foundation for them to gradually escape poverty sustainably, no longer having to worry about a permanent place to live.
