Can Tho unifies the number of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies
Can Tho - The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City agreed on the structure, composition and number of introductions for 18 National Assembly deputies and 85 City People's Council deputies for the 2026 - 2031 term.
On December 8, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City held the first meeting of the bargaining conference to agree on the structure, composition, and number of candidates for the 16th National Assembly, term 2026-2031, as introduced by the locality.
According to the plan of the National Assembly Standing Committee, the total number of elected National Assembly deputies of Can Tho City is 18 people. Of which, the number of delegates residing and working in the locality is 10 people and the number of delegates recommended by the Central Government is 8 people.

At the conference, 100% of the delegates attending conducted consultations and agreements by voting unanimously on the structure, composition, and number of candidates for the 16th National Assembly, term 2026-2031, introduced by the locality.

Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Dong Van Thanh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Council, Chairman of the Can Tho City Election Council noted that this is the first election after implementing the two-level local government. He suggested that the Standing Committees of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels closely coordinate with the Standing Committees of the People's Council, Election Committees and localities to grasp the situation, guide and promptly remove difficulties; strengthen supervision throughout the entire election process to ensure the election is successful, truly a people's festival.
He also requested agencies and units that are allocated candidate personnel to organize conferences to introduce serious, democratic, public, transparent candidates and submit complete documents and lists of quotas within the prescribed time limit.

Speaking at the end of the Conference, Ms. Ho Thi Cam Dao, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City, said that based on the agreed results, the Standing Committee of the City Fatherland Front Committee will complete the minutes and documents to send to the National Election Council, the National Assembly Standing Committee, the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the City Election Committee within the prescribed time limit.
Immediately after receiving the first adjustment document of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the structure, composition, and number of people allocated to run for office, the Standing Committee of the City Fatherland Front Committee will work with relevant agencies and units to notify and guide the process of introducing candidates (expected on December 16).
According to Ms. Dao, from December 17 to 22, agencies, organizations and units will introduce candidates and organize conferences for voters to comment and evaluate. Candidates must submit their application no later than 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2026. After synthesizing the dossier, the Standing Committee of the City Fatherland Front Committee will organize the second Rift Trade Conference (expected on February 2, 2026) to make a preliminary list of people recommended to run for the 16th National Assembly.

On the same day, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City held the first meeting of bargaining for agreement on the structure, composition, and number of candidates for the City People's Council, term 2026-2031.
Accordingly, the total number of delegates elected to the Can Tho City People's Council for the 2026-2031 term according to regulations is 85 people. Based on the opinions exchanged and agreed with the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the City and the leaders of the City People's Committee, the Standing Committee of the City People's Council is expected to introduce 150 people to run for the City People's Council delegates for the 2026 - 2031 term.
At the Conference, 100% of the delegates voted in agreement with the expected structure, composition, and number of people recommended to run for the City People's Council delegates of agencies, organizations, and units.
