Forcing wife to work for gender reasons, husband may be fined up to 10 million VND

Clause 1, Article 5 of Decree 76/2026/ND-CP amending and supplementing Clauses 1, 2 and 3, Article 13 of Decree No. 125/2021/ND-CP Regulating penalties for administrative violations in the field of gender equality (effective from May 1, 2026), stipulates as follows:
“1. A fine of between 5 million VND and 10 million VND shall be imposed for one of the following acts:
a) Obstructing or not allowing family members to engage in income-generating activities or meet other family needs for gender reasons;
b) Unequal treatment between family members for gender reasons.
Thus, from May 1, 2026, husbands who do not let their wives go to work to earn income for the family due to gender reasons will be fined up to 10 million VND.
