The Supreme People's Court has just issued a Plan to organize the Judge selection exam for ranks 3, 2 and 1 in 2026 with 877 targets, expected to be held in July.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) has just issued a Plan on June 18 on organizing the 2026 Judge Selection Exam to supplement and consolidate the team of Judges for the People's Courts and Military Courts at all levels, meeting the requirements of judicial reform and adjudication tasks in the new situation.

According to the Plan, the organization of the exam aims to select people with sufficient political qualities, professional qualifications, practical capacity and professional bravery to consider appointing Judges according to the provisions of law; and at the same time create a source to serve the work of arranging, mobilizing, and rotating in the People's Court system.

The exam is conducted according to the principles of competition, objectivity, publicity, and transparency; the determination of the winning candidate is based on the selected targets that have been approved and the exam results of the examinee.

According to the Plan, the total number of Judge quotas to be supplemented in 2026 is 877 quotas.

In which, the Supreme People's Court has 51 quotas, including 35 quotas for Judges of People's Courts of rank 3 (including 7 quotas with the exam source being department-level leaders and equivalents or higher at the Supreme People's Court; 28 quotas for the remaining exam source); 12 quotas for Judges of rank 2 and 4 quotas for Judges of rank 1.

Provincial People's Courts and regional People's Courts have 813 targets, including 5 targets for rank 2 Judges and 808 targets for rank 1 Judges.

Military courts have 13 rank 1 Judge quotas.

Candidates registering for the exam must meet the general standards according to the provisions of the Law on Organization of the People's Court and related regulations, including conditions such as: being Vietnamese citizens loyal to the Fatherland and the Constitution, having good moral qualities, having a bachelor's degree in law or higher, having been trained in adjudication skills, having the health to ensure task completion, being ranked as completing tasks well or better in the next three years and having a working period of 5 years or more as of September 1, 2026.

The exam registration dossier includes a registration form according to the form, a resume certified by a competent authority, a written comment, assessment and request from the head of the unit, a copy of the professional diploma, a certificate of trial professional training, a health certificate and other documents as notified by the Supreme People's Court.

Regarding the exam format, the exam is organized in two parts. The paper-based multiple-choice test has a test time of 60 minutes, with a score of 100. The written test has a test time of 180 minutes, with a score of 100.

The exam content focuses on assessing in-depth legal knowledge, logical thinking, adjudication skills, legal reasoning ability and application of knowledge to handling practical situations.

According to the plan, the Judge Selection Exam of the People's Court in 2026 is expected to be held in July 2026.
