LD26007: A woman with lost vision lives alone in a house in the fields

Ms. Nguyen Thi Canh, 73 years old (Thuong Phuc commune, Hanoi City) has almost no longer seen the light. Without husband, without children, she struggled with the disease alone.

The place called "house" of Mrs. Canh is located separately in the field, in Gia Khanh village, Thuong Phuc commune. The house was temporarily built many years ago, surrounded by old corrugated iron on all sides, and is now seriously degraded. Surrounded by vacant fields, few houses. Day is gone, when night falls, this place is almost immersed in silence.

Mrs. Canh (born in 1953) was never married and had no children. Her parents passed away more than 40 years ago, and since then she has quickly adapted to her self-made life. When she was young, she quietly stayed in the fields, doing whatever she was hired to do to make a living, supporting herself in poverty

Previously, she lived with relatives. However, over time, the children in the family grew up, started their own families, and each person had to worry about their own life. Not wanting to be a burden, she quietly moved out to live alone in an old house in the fields.

The incident happened about three months ago, a serious illness caused Ms. Canh's health to decline rapidly. After the illness, Mrs. Canh's eyes gradually blurred and she could no longer see anything. "At first, I thought it was so tired that I was so happy, I thought it would get darker and darker. Now I don't dare to step out of the house," Ms. Canh shared

Old age leads with illness, making Mrs. Canh's life more difficult. She currently has many chronic diseases such as bone and joint pain, heart disease and diabetes. Frequent pain makes her tired, her health is exhausted, especially since her blurred vision, making daily activities more difficult. Due to not having a stable source of income, she hardly dared to go to the hospital for examination. "When my illness becomes serious, I can only ask my neighbors to help me buy some medicine to take in moderation, hoping to overcome the pain. Every time I go to the hospital, it costs me millions, I can't bear to go," Ms. Canh said sadly.

Currently, Ms. Canh is no longer able to work. She is also not eligible for social allowances and does not have a stable source of income. Mrs. Canh only relies on a little food, a small amount of money to occasionally receive support from relatives, relatives... Her daily meals are mainly rice and vegetable juice, sometimes just a pot of thinly sliced porridge overtime. "Now I don't see anything, I can't do anything I want to do anymore", Ms. Canh said choking up

Since Mrs. Canh's eyes gradually sank into darkness, the person who often came to help her was Mrs. Nguyen Thi Vu - a neighbor living nearby. Every time she has free time, Mrs. Vu comes to cook, clean the house, and support Mrs. Canh in her daily activities. That cover partly helps the old woman feel less lonely in the deserted fields.

"She lived alone and was blind, so she was very miserable. I sometimes run around to help out in my ability, I love Mrs. Canh very much...", Mrs. Vu shared.

Due to her old age, weakness, and loss of vision, Mrs. Canh's life is facing countless difficulties. No one can rely on her for a long time, no stable source of income, every day that passes for her is a difficult day...

Talking to Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Head of Gia Khanh village, Thuong Phuc commune said that Ms. Nguyen Thi Canh is one of the elderly who live alone and lose vision, so they face many difficulties. The whole village is interested and understands.

"The locality and the people have paid attention and supported me as much as possible, but to stabilize my life in the long term, I still need more support from the community," said Mr. Tuan.
