LD26004: Sick mother after stroke still takes care of 2-month-old child day and night in the recovery room

In the Intensive Care - Anti-Poison room, Hanoi Children's Hospital, baby Le Anh Duong (born on November 1, 2025) is fighting for her life every hour. At two months old, when many babies were still in the warm arms of the family, Anh Duong had to closely link her life with airbikes, IV tubes and prolonged treatments.

Anh Duong is the fourth child in a family with particularly difficult circumstances in Tung Thien ward (Hanoi). Due to the mother's poor health and the risk of preeclampsia, doctors were forced to prescribe a cesarean section at nearly 37 weeks of pregnancy. Having weighed about 3kg, after 5 days of monitoring at the hospital, the baby was allowed to return home. However, the joy did not last long, more than ten days later, the child showed signs of difficulty breathing and had to be hospitalized at Son Tay General Hospital for treatment with diagnosis of respiratory failure and pneumonia. After being deprived of oxygen for a few days, Anh Duong unfortunately contracted influenza A, the disease progressed rapidly, became purple, and suffered severe respiratory failure, forcing him to be placed in the tracts and urgently transferred to Hanoi Children's Hospital.

Here, doctors determined that the child had severe acute respiratory failure syndrome, septic shock, sepsis, hyd hyd hydration disorder - electrolyte - alkalinity, necrotizing enterocolitis, pneumoniae, gastrointestinal bleeding, urinary tract infections, anemia, and non-specific blood clotting disorder. The treatment period is long, the cost is high, in which the child has to use a special anti-fungal medicine treated for about 6 million VND per day, not included in the list of health insurance paid.

The burden of her child's illness piled up on a family that was already economically exhausted. The child's mother - Ms. Le Thi Ngoc had suffered a stroke since 2023, her health has seriously declined and she is no longer able to work. After many years of borrowing money to treat her illness, the family will not be able to repay all the debt until the end of 2024, but her health is still poor. Recently, after a medical examination, she continued to discover kidney failure and high blood pressure, and had to go to the doctor every month and take expensive medicine. Currently, while taking care of her child at Hanoi Children's Hospital, she was forced to have an illegal examination, not being paid for insurance, and the medicine fee for the most recent examination was up to 7-8 million VND.

Her father works in the fields and is a freelance paint painter, with an unstable income. Since his child was hospitalized, he had to take a day off work to take care of his wife. Every morning, he takes his eldest daughter in grade 1 to school, then travels from his hometown to Hanoi to go to the hospital to take care of her child so his wife can rest.

Up to now, the family has had to advance 70 million VND in hospital fees. The total estimated cost of treatment is more than 207 million VND, of which insurance covers more than 114 million VND. Currently, the family still lacks more than 22 million VND.

According to Ms. Ngoc, the whole amount was borrowed by the family from relatives and the father asked for a salary advance payment.

At first, Ms. Ngoc did not think it would be so expensive and did not want to rely on the support of the community, but the treatment journey was still long, the cost was getting higher and higher, forcing her to put aside her hesitation, hoping to receive the sharing of the community so that Anh Duong could have more opportunities to live and grow up like many other children.

Amidst the sound of machines in the recovery room, the life of the two-month-old girl is in dire need of kind hands. Every help at this time is not only money, but also a hope so that a poor family does not have to give up on illness.
