"Traffic volunteers" support workers day and night
Regardless of the weather, sunny or rainy, day or night, for more than 3 years, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hai (47 years old, in the old Quang Hung commune - now Nam Sam Son ward, Thanh Hoa province) has been present at the entrance to Le Mon Industrial Park (Quang Phu ward) to regulate traffic, helping workers cross the road safely.
The silent "Hero"
For more than 3 years, tens of thousands of workers and residents in Le Mon Industrial Park (Quang Phu Ward, Thanh Hoa Province) have become very familiar with the image of a man with a long beard, wearing reflective clothes, standing in the middle of the road regardless of sunny or rainy days to regulate traffic, helping workers enter and exit the industrial park safely.
That man was Nguyen Huu Hai (47 years old, from Quang Hung commune, the old Sam Son city - now Nam Sam Son ward, Thanh Hoa province). Sharing about his work, Mr. Hai said that he stood on the road to regulate traffic to help workers completely voluntarily, no one hired him, no one paid him and no one asked him to work.
"Everything started in early 2022, when I was living in Tay Ninh province. Due to family problems, I decided to return to my hometown to live with my parents in the old Quang Hung (now Nam Sam Son ward). Once passing through Le Mon Industrial Park, I saw tens of thousands of workers leaving work, pouring into National Highway 47 while there were no traffic lights in this area, which was very dangerous, even causing accidents. I think we must do something to make everyone safer, said Mr. Hai.
Thinking it was work, he went home to buy a few tools and two times a day (from 6:30 to 8:00, in the afternoon from 4:00 p.m. to nearly 7:00 p.m.) took a motorbike from his house to the above area - a distance of nearly 10km - to regulate traffic to help workers get to the road safely.

Giving free gasoline to poor workers
Not only regulating traffic, Mr. Hai's motorbike always has a box full of free fuel bottles, ready to support workers when the motorbike runs out of fuel. "When regulating traffic, I saw many workers running out of gas, having to walk, some were still pregnant. Once I had to use a duck pipe to pump gas from my car to help a woman. From there, I bought gasoline, divided it into small bottles, and helped those in need. Seeing that I was not profitable, later many workers and trade unions of companies in industrial parks also contributed money - some 10,000, some 20,000 - to buy more gasoline" - Mr. Hai shared.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh (worker at Le Mon Industrial Park) said: "Previously, there was a traffic jam every hour after work. But since Mr. Hai's birth, that situation has decreased significantly. He not only regulates traffic but also gives gasoline to help workers in difficulty. We are very grateful and admire his spirit - ignoring personal interests, accompanying workers and students for many years, a truly valuable work.
According to Ms. Hanh, thanks to Mr. Hai, tens of thousands of workers in Le Mon Industrial Park can cross the road safely and return home conveniently after each shift.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Quang - Chairman of the Trade Union of Sakurai Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Le Mon Industrial Park) - said: "For many years, Mr. Hai has persistently worked meaningfully, helping workers enter and exit the industrial park more conveniently and safely. Currently, our company has more than 10,000 workers, and there are many neighboring companies, so it is easy to get congested after work. Thanks to Mr. Hai's volunteer arrangement, the congestion has significantly decreased".
Renting a house to continue the journey
Sharing with Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hai said that in the early years, he had to ride a motorbike from home to the industrial park - a distance of nearly 10km. Seeing the distance and inconvenience, for nearly a year now he has decided to rent a room near the industrial park to facilitate travel and traffic for workers and students.
"Since renting a room near the industrial park, many workers have asked me to go to the intersection between Quang Phu Ward and Nam Song Ma Avenue to help students cross the road safely. I surveyed and found that it was very dangerous because many parents taking their children to pick up and drop off have to cross the alley, and vehicles run fast. So I allocate time, thereby supporting every time I graduate" - Mr. Hai said.
According to him, the work of supporting students and parents across the road has been carried out by him for more than a year now, receiving consensus and support from the people of Quang Phu ward. Many students are familiar with his image, and every time they pass by, they greet him respectfully, as a thank you.
Mr. Nguyen Sinh Khen (62 years old, residing in Quang Phu ward) said: "The intersection with Nam Song Ma Avenue has no traffic lights, cars run fast, and students return home from school is very dangerous. Fortunately, Uncle Hai diverted traffic, helping parents and students cross the road safely. He works with a heart, very enthusiastic whether it is sunny or rainy. We all admire and are grateful for that act of friendship.
