Promoting digital transformation in trade union activities

Strengthening supervision of the implementation of policies and laws for workers

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Party Secretary, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor gave a speech at the 5th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union for the 2025-2030 term, taking place on the afternoon of December 18.

Accordingly, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang acknowledged, commended and congratulated the achievements of trade unions at all levels, union members and workers in the Industry and Trade sector in the recent period, actively contributing to the overall results of the workers' movement and trade union organizations nationwide, contributing to the successful implementation of the sector's political tasks.

Basically agreeing with the goals, targets, tasks and solutions set out in the draft political report submitted to the Congress, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang suggested a number of issues for the delegates to discuss.

Accordingly, the congress needs to proactively study, concretize and effectively organize the implementation of the Resolution of the First Party Congress of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Resolution 02 of the Politburo on innovation of the organization and operation of Vietnam Trade Union in the new situation; improve the quality of propaganda and mobilization work; creatively deploy the study and work according to Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style in accordance with each subject, associated with building a team of union cadres, union members and workers with strong political will, moral qualities, and working capacity to meet the requirements of the tasks; focus on developing party members from outstanding union members, especially workers directly involved in production, contributing to building a clean and strong Party from the grassroots.

In addition, the Vietnam Trade Union needs to continue to perform well its function of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and workers. Effectively carry out the task of participating in state management; proactively and actively participate in developing specific mechanisms and policies for the industry; coordinate the implementation of grassroots democracy regulations; maintain and improve the quality of dialogue and collective bargaining; strengthen supervision of the implementation of policies and laws for workers, especially in the context of business restructuring, labor shift and under the impact of science and technology.

Improve the quality of organizing patriotic emulation movements in a practical and effective manner, associated with the task of production - business, innovation, improving labor productivity, and the quality of human resources in the Industry and Trade sector. Focus on discovering, nurturing, honoring and replicating advanced models; creating strong spiritual motivation, spreading the value of labor and dedication throughout the industry and the whole society.

Vietnam Trade Union needs to build a strong trade union organization, innovate trade union methods of operation in a flexible, modern and professional direction; focus on developing union members and establishing grassroots trade unions, considering this an important and regular task. Industry unions need to promote digital transformation in trade union activities, considering this a breakthrough priority; improve the quality of trade union cadres at all levels, especially at the grassroots level, to meet integration requirements; strengthen international cooperation, focus on developing cooperative relations with global industry unions...

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang also suggested that the delegates uphold the sense of responsibility, promote intelligence, focus on democracy, actively contribute to the draft documents of the Congress, and at the same time promote the sense of responsibility to effectively implement the contents of personnel work, ensuring the success of the Congress.

In order for the Resolution and the spirit of the Congress to spread and realize in practice soon, right after the Congress, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang suggested that the Executive Committee of the new Industry and Trade Union urgently develop and immediately issue an Action Program to implement the Resolution with specific tasks and solutions, easy to recognize and implement; prioritize resources to implement breakthroughs.

At the same time, direct and guide affiliated trade unions at all levels to concretize into work programs suitable for each locality and each facility; develop and promulgate operating regulations, strictly implement the principle of democratic centralism, solidarity and unity under the comprehensive leadership of Party committees at all levels.

Focus on strong innovation

Speaking at the congress, Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Industry and Trade emphasized a number of additional issues for the Congress to discuss, consider and decide. Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that trade unions need to fulfill their role and position as a bridge between the Party, government and workers; continue to promote and improve the quality of political and ideological education, propaganda, and dissemination of the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws (especially policies and strategies on industrial and trade development associated with the development of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation), helping each union member, employee and worker in the industry to improve political will, awareness of law compliance and industrial style, labor discipline to meet the increasingly high requirements of industrialization - modernization of the country and international integration.

Along with that, the Vietnam Trade Union needs to focus on strong innovation in both organization and content and methods of trade union activities in the direction of focusing on the grassroots, taking union members and workers as the center; avoiding formality, showing off and institutionalization, creating positive changes in trade union activities in the spirit of Resolution 02 of the Politburo on innovation of trade union organization and activities in the new situation.

Industry unions need to further promote their role and function of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers, especially in the non-state enterprise sector; strengthen Party building and building and consolidating a clean, strong, truly core union organization, a center for solidarity and gathering union members...

On this occasion, Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that Party committees and leaders of agencies and units in the whole industry continue to pay attention and create conditions for trade unions at all levels to operate smoothly and effectively and have stronger and more solid development steps in the coming time.

The Congress elected 30 members to the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Trade Union for the 5th term, 2025 - 2030.
