Latest regulations on the total number of extra teaching periods in a school year for teachers

The Lao Dong Newspaper Legal Consulting Office replied:

Clause 2, Article 4 of Circular 21/2025/TT-BGDDT of the Ministry of Education and Training (effective from September 23, 2025) stipulates that the total number of extra teaching periods in a school year for teachers is determined as follows:

Number of extra teaching periods of teachers/school year = (Tuanum of teaching periods calculated as actual/school year) - (Trade for teaching periods/school year).

In which:

a) The total number of teaching periods that are actually counted/school year includes: the number of hours actually taught/school year; the number of teaching periods converted/school year according to regulations (if any); the number of teaching periods added/school year according to regulations (if any); the number of teaching periods reduced/school year according to regulations (if any); the number of teaching periods included in the number of full-time teaching periods/school year according to regulations (if any).

For teachers assigned to teach part-time or inter-schools, the number of teaching periods that are actually counted/school year is the total number of teaching periods that are actually counted/school year at all educational institutions in which teachers participate in teaching;

b) Coefficient of teaching hours/school year for preschool teachers = (Coefficient of teaching hours/day) x (Coefficient of working days/week) x (Coefficient of teaching weeks/school year);

c) Establishment of teaching hours/school years for teachers of other educational institutions in accordance with current regulations on the working regime of teachers;

d) In case there are no regulations on the teaching period/school year norms for teachers, the head of the educational institution shall prescribe in writing after agreeing with the collective of teachers and management staff of the educational institution.

Thus, from September 23, 2025, the total number of extra teaching periods in a school year for teachers is regulated as above.
