LD26018: Son paralyzed on one side, mother tries every day to save her child from illness
The incident occurred, causing the son to be paralyzed on one side, all the burden of living and treatment was on the mother's shoulders.
In the middle of Thuong Thanh 2 countryside (Binh Minh commune, Hanoi), there is a small family quietly facing a series of tearful days since the epidemic hit. The once warm house has now become empty, because most of the time, the mother and child have to close their lives to the hospital.
The mother is Mrs. Nguyen Thi Huong (born in 1983), and the only son is Nguyen Minh Quan (20 years old). Before falling ill, Minh Quan was a healthy, hard-working young man. In 2024, I passed the entrance exam to a university, bringing many dreams about the future ahead... However, when the doors of the lectures had not yet opened, the incident suddenly closed all plans.
Natural disaster hit his family on May 29, 2024, while doing normal activities, Minh Quan suddenly felt a severe back pain, paralyzed, and shaky. After only a few days, Quan fell into a state of hemiplegia, was diagnosed with grade C Myasthenia gravis, and was forced to be hospitalized for long-term treatment. At that time, I was still able to sit, but a few days later I couldnt get up, Ms. Huong said choking up.
Since then, Minh Quan's treatment journey has been a series of days at major hospitals. He was treated for 7 months at Bach Mai Hospital, then transferred to Viet Duc Hospital for more than a month. Currently, Quan is being treated and practiced rehabilitation at Hanoi Rehabilitation Hospital, with a total treatment period of more than 19 months.
Reporters went to meet Ms. Huong and Minh Quan at Hanoi Rehabilitation Hospital on a cold day. In the infirmary, Minh Quan lay motionless on the bed, and needed support for all personal activities. The dream of returning to university lecturing for me now I only dare to keep it in my mind. I just hope to be able to walk around, to be able to help my mother, and then continue to go to school like many of my friends, Minh Quan shared.
For nearly the past 2 years, Minh Quan has gone through a difficult treatment journey. At Viet Duc Friendship Hospital alone, he had to undergo surgery twice and undergo cleansing interventions 3 times due to serious spinal cord damage. After each treatment regimen, there are difficult recovery days, when the body cannot move autonomously. Currently, Minh Quan is still paralyzed on one side, having to practice small movements...
The burden of making a living and taking care of children is all on the mother's shoulders. Previously, Ms. Huong worked as a clothing delivery worker for a store, earning about 6 million VND/month. Since her son fell ill, she almost quit her job to take care of him, so her income has seriously decreased.
Ms. Huong herself is not in good health, but due to difficult circumstances, all expenses have to be focused on her child's treatment. The family is not eligible for social allowances, while the cost of treatment, medicine, and travel each month is up to tens of millions of VND. Not to mention, Minh Quan's father works far away, rarely returns home and does not have regular support. The life of the mother and child was therefore even more difficult...
During her long days in the hospital, the mother still silently carries the burden, cherishing the fragile hope that one day, her son can stand up on his own, continue on the unfinished learning path...
Talking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Ba Son - Head of Thuong Thanh 2 village, Binh Minh commune - said that Ms. Huong's family is one of the particularly difficult cases in the locality. The son is paralyzed on one side and has to be treated for a long time, while the mother is in poor health and has an unstable income. The locality has paid attention and encouraged within its capacity, but the cost of treatment is too high, far beyond the family's capacity.
According to Mr. Son, in order for Minh Quan to continue treatment and recovery, it is necessary to have the cooperation and sharing of the community. "Every help at this time is extremely valuable, helping the family overcome the difficult period and keep hope for the child's future," said Mr. Son.
