LD26016: Having congenital hemorrhage, a boy in Dien Bien needs help

Duy Dũng (báo lao động) 23/01/2026 15:52 (GMT+7)

Dien Bien - Ms. Choi's family has been economically exhausted after 9 years of treating her son with congenital hemorrhage.

Suffering from congenital hemorrhage, Lo Van Nhat (born in 2016, residing in Na Pan village, Muong Nhe commune, Dien Bien province) had to receive a blood transfusion periodically for the rest of his life to maintain his life.

After 9 years of devoting all their efforts and assets to treating their children, the poor family in this mountainous province has fallen into a state of exhaustion, in great need of the community's help.

The family of Ms. Lo Thi Choi (born in 1991, Thai ethnic group) has 8 members, including an elderly mother, a couple and 5 children of school age. The whole family's life depends only on a barren piece of land and unstable wages.

For many consecutive years, her family has been a poor household in the commune; although they have escaped poverty according to the new criteria, they are still near-poor, and their lives are extremely difficult.

Ms. Choi's third son, Lo Van Nhat, unfortunately suffered from congenital hemorrhage - a disease that forces the patient to have to receive blood transfusion for life.

Since discovering that her child was sick, once a month, the mother carried her child more than 200km to the provincial hospital for a blood transfusion.

The cost of travel, accommodation and treatment has caused the already difficult family to increasingly accumulate debt. There was a time when, due to not being able to get the money, the family had to take their children for a blood transfusion every 2-3 months.

Many times, despite being discharged from the hospital, due to lack of blood, the mother and daughter had to quietly return in anxiety. Currently, the Japanese child is in grade 4 but is thin, blue, gray, and has a much smaller figure than his peers.

For him, the buses traveling along the winding mountainside, the smell of pesticides in the infirmary and the needles for blood transfusion have become familiar since he was very young.

Ms. Choi said that every time she went to the blood transfusion station without being given blood in time, her health was significantly reduced, her skin turned turned green, she was tired, had difficulty breathing, and was not strong enough to go to school.

Doctors recommend that the family take the child to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion for more regular blood transfusion. However, in the current situation, taking children to provincial hospitals is an overwhelming burden, not to mention long-term treatment in Hanoi.

To treat her child, Ms. Choi's family borrowed more than 100 million VND - a huge amount for a simple farming family in the border area. The Japanese baby's health is currently at an alarming level, requiring a monthly blood transfusion to maintain his life.

Information from Mr. Vu Xe Chu - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Muong Nhe commune - said that Ms. Lo Thi Choi's family is in a particularly difficult situation in the locality.

For many years, the family has devoted all resources to treating Nhat's illness, and has now been completely exhausted.

"We hope to receive the attention and sharing of benefactory organizations and individuals to help the family have the conditions to continue treating the child, keeping her life," Mr. Chu expressed.
