LD26008: Father loses skull, young child is at risk of dropping out of school
Vinh Long - After the life-and-death fall, the father lost his skull and two young children in Hung Khanh Trung commune on the banks in despair, needing to share.
Father is seriously ill, child worries about dropping out of school
Passing through the row of forest trees, fish ponds and a path leading deep into the garden, we went to the pig house in Hung Khanh Trung. The man in his 40s sat motionless, his head deeply groaning from a skull loss, and his eyes watching his two children.
That man was Nguyen Van Kha (1984), who suffered from eczema. In 2021, during an illness, he fell, suffered a serious traumatic brain injury, and had to undergo emergency surgery. The family did not have enough money to reattach the skull, so they had to send the bones to the hospital.
Since then, Mr. Kha has lived "on the ceiling", with a limited memory and unable to work. The accident that fell on the only pillar left the poor family exhausted. He is gentle, his wife is weak, and his two children are affected by his father's serious illness.
In the corner of a cramped house, two children sit next to a thin page of notebook with blurred letters. They still go to school, but their learning path is changing day by day, and can be unfinished at any time when they do not know where to look for meals.
The burden fell on the shoulders of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Be Bay (1965), Mr. Kha's mother. At an old age and with poor health, she works for hire everywhere, and whoever hires her to clean the garden, pick grass or do anything will accept it, just hoping to have money to buy medicine for her children and provide silver meals for them.
Talking about her son's skull, Mrs. Bay choked up: "The doctor said you have to have money to reattach it. The amount of money is too large, I can't wait to rent it for a lifetime." Each month, the cost of medicine to save Mr. Kha's life was more than 3 million, beyond the old lady's ability to work for hire.
The village love is silent and cares for the children
Not only relatives but also neighbors around Mr. Kha's house are heartbroken by the difficult situation. Mrs. Tu Thom, who lives nearby, said that her family was already poor. Since Mr. Kha's disaster, hunger and poverty have surrounded her even more closely.
"Everyone loves us, seeing children going to school wearing old clothes and torn pairs makes us feel uneasy. But it helps with just meals, noodles or a few notebooks, let alone no one can afford to support them for a long time," Ms. Thom shared.
According to Mr. Huynh Thanh Au - Chairman of the Hung Khanh Trung Commune Red Cross Society, Mr. Kha's family is a poor household. In the past, the commune has prioritized supporting rice, noodles and some necessities for the family to temporarily support over the day.
However, with Mr. Kha's special health condition and the risk of his two young children having to drop out of school, the current support is just a drop in the bud, unable to help the family overcome the long-term difficulties.
"The family really needs the cooperation of many benefactors so that Mr. Kha can have the conditions to have a skull reattachment surgery, recover health, and keep the two children to continue going to school," said Mr. Au.
Leaving the house hidden deep in the garden, the image of a disabled father sitting silently with his two children made us feel overwhelmed. The letters on the notebooks continue, but can be unfinished at any time if the family does not receive sharing.
