Thanh Hoa trains health volunteers for people with disabilities and workers
In recent times, Thanh Hoa province has implemented many meaningful programs to improve the quality of community health care, especially for poor households, people with disabilities and workers.
A highlight is the model of training people to become health volunteers at the grassroots level. The volunteers were trained in community health knowledge, first aid skills, chronic disease monitoring, health records and periodic reports to commune health stations. They have become an extended arm of the medical industry, helping to monitor and detect diseases early, and at the same time being a bridge for people to access medical services.
Many volunteers after the training have gone to each household to measure blood pressure, remind them to take medicine, consult on nutrition, environmental sanitation, especially supporting the elderly, people with disabilities and poor households with difficulty in accessing healthcare. Thanks to that, it not only reduces the burden on grassroots health care but also raises the public's awareness of health care.
According to the Thanh Hoa Department of Health, in 2024 alone, more than 500 volunteers in mountainous areas such as Quan Son, Thuong Xuan, and Nhu Xuan will be trained. In Quan Son, this network has regularly monitored the health of more than 200 poor households, promptly detecting many cases that need to be transferred to hospitals.
In parallel, volunteer activities such as providing free medicine, giving wheelchairs, repairing charity houses, and vocational training for people with disabilities and orphans have also been implemented.
The proactive participation of people in community health work has contributed to building a strong grassroots health system, close to the people, for the people. These efforts have practically contributed to the emulation movement "For the poor - No one is left behind" in the period of 2021 - 2025 that the whole country is joining hands to implement.
