Trade Union social housing project: The key to solving the housing problem for workers

This is a project that contributes to solving housing difficulties for union members and workers in the locality, contributing to the completion of the target of the 1 million social housing apartments project approved by the Government.

The demand for social housing by the Trade Union is huge

Ms. Pham Thi Bich Hong (from Phu Tho) has been working at Dong Van 4 Industrial Park (Ninh Binh province) for more than 10 years. Previously, she rented a room near the company, but since getting married and having 2 young children, her whole family has moved to a social housing area in the Ha Nam Trade Union Institution Area (Dong Van Ward, Ninh Binh Province) since 2022.

Ms. Hong's social housing apartment with an area of 45m2 with 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, kitchen area, balcony, hot and cold water... has a rental price of 1.9 million VND/month.

"When they come here, they don't want to move anywhere else, their parents are also close to work, and near schools, markets, and hospitals, so they can take their own bicycles to school that their parents don't need to pick them up; they can walk to pick-up and drop off buses to provinces... The house has security and the environment is clean. At the same time, because all workers come from many provinces and cities to work here, it is very harmonious and easy to live. Electricity and water prices are also lower than outside, said Ms. Hong.

According to the female worker, with an apartment of 45m2 and such amenities, the rental price in the same area of Dong Van ward can be up to 3 - 5 million VND/month, not including electricity and water. Therefore, living in the Trade Union Institution Area helps her family save and accumulate more to take care of the future.

Similarly, the family of Ms. Dang My Thu (Tuyen Quang) has been working in Dong Van Industrial Park for more than 5 years. Ms. Thu's family has 2 husband and wife, 3 young children currently living in a 45m2 apartment in the Ha Nam Trade Union Institution Area. Ms. Thu said that registering for social housing rental through the Trade Union of the company where she is working is a very quick and convenient procedure.

Not only in Ninh Binh, in Bac Ninh province - one of the major industrial capitals of the country, the demand for Trade Union social housing is also very large. This locality currently has 33 industrial parks with a total area of over 10,100 hectares, about 600,000 workers.

According to statistics from the authorities of Bac Ninh province, the number of workers and laborers in need of housing in Bac Ninh province is nearly 158,000 people, equivalent to about 54,000 apartments. It is expected that by 2030, the number of workers and laborers in need of housing will be more than 236,000 workers, equivalent to nearly 85,000 apartments.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong (33 years old), a worker in an industrial park in Nenh ward (Bac Ninh province), said that she followed a report about a Trade Union social housing project in Ninh Binh province) published in Lao Dong Newspaper and found it very suitable for the needs of many workers like her.

Starting construction of Trade Union social housing in Bac Ninh, Vinh Long

Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Vu Duc Tam - an employee of the Department of Public Asset Exploitation Management - Trade Union Institution Project Management Board, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor said that the Ha Nam Trade Union Institution Project has been in operation since December 2021. The scale includes 5 buildings with a total of 244 social housing apartments and 1 multi-purpose house, along with a common sports playground of more than 1,000m2.

The apartments here are rented to workers' families for 1 - 2 million VND/month, with diverse areas from 32 - 45m2. Since its operation, the occupancy rate of apartments in the project has always reached 100%, currently there are no more apartments for rent. On average, each apartment has 2-3 tenants.

With many large industrial parks in the area, workers and laborers are very hopeful that there will be more social housing areas like the Trade Union Institution Area in the locality, said Mr. Vu Duc Tam.

Also speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Van Nghia - Head of the Trade Union Institution Project Management Board (VGCL) - said that up to now, the VGCL has successfully implemented the Ha Nam Trade Union Institution Area.

Today (September 25), the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor started construction of a Trade Union social housing project in Viet Yen ward (Bac Ninh province). The project includes 2 blocks of 10-storey houses with a total floor area of 30,166m2, with 477 apartments for rent with elevators and basic equipment and furniture: beds, wardrobes, kitchen cabinets... and a 3-storey parking lot with a total floor area of 3,024m2, total investment capital of nearly 388 billion VND.

The project has great significance in welcoming the Party Congress of Bac Ninh province - a locality with a large number of workers and laborers. Thereby, contributing to solving housing difficulties for union members and workers in Viet Yen ward in particular and Bac Ninh province in general, creating an enthusiastic competitive atmosphere for labor and production of workers, contributing to the completion of the target of the 1 million apartment project approved by the Government - Mr. Le Van Nghia said.

It is expected that on September 30, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will continue to start the Trade Union social housing project in Giao Long commune (Vinh Long province). The project is built with a land use area of more than 3.3 hectares, including 4 7-storey apartment buildings, 2 2-storey garages, gardens, internal traffic systems, outdoor parking lots, sports areas and outdoor stages... The total investment of the project is more than 554.5 billion VND.

All projects are invested with trade union financial capital according to the Housing Law 2023.

Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Thach Van Chung - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of the Bac Ninh Provincial Labor Federation - said that as an industrial center of the country, Bac Ninh has been welcoming hundreds of thousands of workers from all over the provinces and cities.
