Vietnam Health Trade Union: A solid support for workers in the health sector

In the period of 2023 - 2025, the Vietnam Health Trade Union (VTC) has promoted its role as a representative, caregiver, and defender the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and workers in the industry with many effective and practical activities.

35,881 union members and workers participate in the Union Meal program

Representing and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and workers (DV, NLD) is the core function of the Trade Union organization. Over the past 2 years, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has mobilized all resources to effectively perform this core function.

One of the activities that has been effectively implemented is negotiating and signing collective labor agreements. This activity is given special attention by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, especially in non-state enterprises. As a result, 98% of grassroots trade unions in the enterprise sector have signed collective labor agreements with more favorable terms for employees.

In addition, improving the quality of shift meals is focused on and has become a regular activity of concern at the Trade Union. Most units organize meals for employees with the value of the meals increasing every year. In 2 years (2024 - 2025), the program has attracted 35,881 units and employees to participate, with a total cost of 1,765,986,000 VND.

In the period of 2023 - 2025, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has signed more than 31 cooperation agreements, coordination programs and union member welfare programs, creating conditions for 11,397 union members and employees in the industry to receive discounts of 15 - 75% when using the services and products of partners. Also in the past 2 years, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has promptly supported union members and workers in difficulty and the union members were severely affected with the amount of relief money and goods up to nearly 1.4 billion VND.

Identifying 3 breakthroughs in the 2025-2030 term

Speaking to reporters, Dr. Nguyen Luong Tam - Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor - said that the 2025 - 2030 term is very important for the activities of the Trade Union organization.

Dr. Nguyen Luong Tam said that in order to continue promoting the role of the Vietnam Health Trade Union and completing the set targets and goals, in the 2025-2030 term, the Vietnam Health Trade Union plans to identify three breakthrough stages.

The first breakthrough is to focus resources on performing well the task of caring for, representing, and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of employees. The focus is on effectively implementing grassroots democracy regulations; enhancing dialogue, negotiation, signing and implementation of collective labor agreements, especially contents related to working conditions, treatment regimes and wages.

The second breakthrough is to build and effectively organize emulation movements, focusing on the movement "Innovation, breakthrough in caring for, protecting and improving the health of all people, towards the satisfaction and trust of the people" and the program "The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor accompanies the health of employees and workers".

The third breakthrough is to promote innovation, promote the application of digital transformation in trade union activities, especially in financial work, union member management and the provision of trade union welfare services.

Dr. Nguyen Luong Tam added that to implement the set targets, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will propose many solutions, including focusing resources, better performing the task of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and workers; innovating propaganda and mobilization work for union members and workers; promoting communication work, building the image of the Trade Union organization.

Along with that, improve the quality of emulation movements, innovate reward work, encourage and motivate employees to promote innovation, in terms of content and form, closely following practical needs and tasks of the industry. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor focuses on developing new union members, establishing grassroots unions in the private health sector, non-state enterprises, striving to increase at least 1,000 union members each year.

Dr. Nguyen Luong Tam expressed his belief that with the proposed solutions and breakthroughs, in the coming time, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will better meet the legitimate needs and aspirations of union members and workers; strongly arouse and promote the spirit of creativity and aspiration to contribute of the staff and workers of the whole industry in a practical, practical and effective manner, thereby actively contributing to the sustainable development of the Vietnam Trade Union.
