From July 2025, temporarily suspending labor contracts, employees will have to pay health insurance themselves
Employees who are on unpaid leave or have their labor contracts suspended will have to pay health insurance on their own.
Lawyer Le Trong San - Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association - said that according to the provisions of Point 5, Clause 10, Article 1, Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Health Insurance (effective from July 1, 2025), there will be many groups of people having to pay health insurance themselves.
Accordingly, groups of people who pay health insurance themselves include: People in households participating in health insurance under the household form; People living and working, people being cared for and cared for in charitable and religious organizations and facilities; Employees who do not receive salary or temporarily suspend their labor contracts during their leave; People who do not fall under the cases specified in Points a, b and c of this Clause.
According to lawyer San, it is worth noting that if participating in health insurance continuously without interruption, the card is valid from the date of payment. If participating for the first time or interrupted for 3 months or more in the fiscal year, the health insurance card will be valid after 30 days from the date of payment.
