Software skills are an advantage to help students score points in the eyes of businesses
HCMC - Enterprises highly appreciate candidates with soft skills, adaptability and a learning spirit, in addition to professional knowledge.
That was the sharing of Ms. Le Thanh Truc - Human Resources Director of Asia Light Joint Stock Company at the talk show "Schools and businesses in implementing innovation and entrepreneurship training models", held within the framework of the 2025 Job Fair organized by the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City on October 4.
Ms. Thanh Truc said that currently, businesses are paying great attention to some of the top skills that students need to equip.
First of all, problem-solving skills, followed by effective communication skills, foreign languages, along with analytical thinking, cooperation, adaptability and creativity.
"Students need to pay special attention to these skills and practice them in parallel with their expertise. Current businesses not only evaluate professional capacity but also really need young people with soft skills, flexibility and good adaptability. This is also an important premise to help students become more confident when graduating. Although they do not have much experience in working, if they possess these skills, they will still be given priority by the business", Ms. Truc shared.
At the program, students also questioned the " career life" of workers in the context of businesses increasingly prioritizing recruiting young human resources to create resources.
Responding to this question, Ms. Thanh Truc said that the concept of "life of a profession" should not be understood as a limited meaning of time or age.
"The important thing is not how long you have been in the profession, but whether you are still developing or not," Ms. Thanh Truc emphasized.
According to her, each employee needs to continuously learn and update. "I see many 30-40 year old men and women still register to study additional courses on governance, digital transformation, leadership skills... People with a lifelong learning spirit, businesses never want to separate them from the development flow of the organization".
She believes that "professional life" really depends on self-development ability, not the number of years spent with the company. When workers continuously learn, they can take on many different roles, from employee, specialist to consultant.
"Personals do not need to worry about "aging out", just need to worry about all the motivation to study and improve. If you still have the spirit of learning, businesses will always have a position for you," said Ms. Truc.
Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Ky Phuong Ha - Vice Principal of the University of Technology (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) assessed that in the context of increasingly deep international integration and the strong impact of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution, high-quality human resources are a decisive factor for the sustainable development of society.
Current workers not only need to have solid professional knowledge but also have a creative mindset, innovative spirit, the ability to start a business and adapt quickly to fluctuations. This is also something that businesses are paying special attention to and expecting from the younger generation - today's students.
