Students proactively upgrade skills to go to the right major, find the right job
Faced with a competitive labor market, many students no longer wait for graduation to find jobs but actively accumulate skills and experience early.
According to data from the Statistics Office - Ministry of Finance, the unemployment rate of young people aged 15-24 in Vietnam in the fourth quarter of 2025 is 9.04%, much higher than the general unemployment rate of the whole country. In urban areas alone, this rate is up to more than 11%. This shows that to find a suitable job, students not only need qualifications but also need to prepare skills, experience and career orientation early.
At job fairs and job fairs, many students show more proactiveness in understanding businesses, recruitment requirements and career trends.
As a final year student majoring in Psychology, Vietnam Women's Academy, Tran Hai Anh said that she has a orientation to become a psychological consultant, so she prioritizes finding the right environment suitable for her expertise.
The criteria for me to choose a business is a dynamic, flexible environment and the opportunity to access more new knowledge that I have not learned in lecture halls," Hai Anh shared.
According to the female student, in the context of a rapidly changing labor market, students not only need to learn professional knowledge but also need to proactively supplement necessary skills for their future careers. For the psychology major, listening and analyzing skills are important factors that Hai Anh is continuing to practice to better meet job requirements.
Meanwhile, Doan Thi Tam, a 3rd-year student majoring in Multimedia Communications, chose to accumulate experience early instead of waiting until graduation.
Currently, Tam has participated in filming, editing videos, and working at an event organizing company to learn more practical skills. According to the female student, students today should not be too subjective, because practical experience is becoming an increasingly common requirement of businesses.
Going to work early helps students better understand the requirements of businesses, thereby adjusting their skills and career orientation more appropriately," the female student expressed.
From the school's perspective, Mr. Bui Gia Huan, Head of Student Affairs Department of the Vietnam Women's Academy, said that the current recruitment trend has changed significantly as businesses increasingly focus on technology skills, adaptability and proactiveness of candidates.
According to him, students today have many advantages such as dynamism, creativity, and sensitivity to technology. However, to compete better, learners still need to improve digital skills, foreign languages, soft skills and understand their strengths to choose the right career direction.
If recruited in the right industry, in the right strengths, the enthusiasm and creativity of students will be something that businesses should not ignore," Mr. Huan said.
