Boarding school project in Dien Bien helps hundreds of workers have jobs

The Nam Ke Primary and Secondary Boarding School project, Dien Bien province is invested by the Project Management and Land Fund Development Board of Region 5, with a total investment of VND 220 billion from the central budget.

This is a project of strategic significance for the cause of "growing people" in the border area. The project includes 30 cultural classrooms, 12 subject classrooms, the school board's office block, library, multi-purpose house, 81 student dormitory rooms, 16 teacher service rooms, dining room, kitchen and technical infrastructure system.

When completed, the school will meet the learning and living needs of about 1,000 students who are children of ethnic minorities in border areas.

In addition to the significance of education, a bright spot in the project implementation process in Nam Ke commune is the priority policy of using on-site human resources. The construction unit has turned the construction site into a place to create livelihoods for local people.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh - representative of the construction unit (Thuan Tuong Nguyen Company Limited, Dien Bien province), the construction site is currently maintaining about 250 local workers working regularly.

Depending on health and skills, workers are arranged in suitable positions such as: Supply transportation, construction workers, welders, iron workers, loading and unloading, protecting or operating basic technical machinery, said Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh.

According to records, the salary for local workers at the project ranges from 350,000 to 450,000 VND/day. This is a fairly high and stable income compared to the general level in the highlands. Thanks to on-site work, workers save on rental and living expenses, while having the conditions to take care of their families and children.

In particular, this model creates a great consensus among the people. Local people are both direct builders and future beneficiaries of the project for their children.

Thereby, the sense of responsibility and cohesion with contractors are enhanced, contributing to ensuring security, order and construction progress.

The representative of the construction unit also affirmed that to ensure the progress to the finish line on schedule, in the coming period, the project is expected to need to mobilize about 500 more workers.

The contractor is committed to prioritizing on-site recruitment, while focusing on skills training, labor safety guidance and adequate protection equipment. Environmental sanitation work is also monitored so as not to affect the daily life of residential areas" - Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh said.
