By 2045, Ho Chi Minh City needs 37,000 personnel for the metro system

This "giant" human resource corresponds to 6 metro lines with a total length of about 187km that will be invested by the city in the period 2025-2030; then in the period 2030-2035, the city will continue to invest in 8 more lines to gradually complete this network.

Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Director of the Center for Transport Research, Vietnam-Germany University, Ho Chi Minh City, said that in the period 2035 - 2040, about 400-500km of metro will be deployed.

With this scale, it poses a very large requirement for high-quality human resources to serve the stages from planning, design, construction to management, operation and exploitation, so the city needs to simultaneously implement short-term and long-term solutions. It is estimated that 20,000-30,000 people are high-quality engineers, capable of system analysis, access to new technologies and solving complex technical problems.

Mr. Tran Vo Anh Minh, Deputy Head of the Urban Railway Management Department, Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City, said: In November 2025, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City issued a Project on training and fostering cadres, civil servants, and public employees to serve urban railway development in the period 2025-2030, with a vision to 2050. However, Mr. Minh also assessed that the limitation of current human resources is that personnel directly involved do not have specialties suitable for urban railways, most of which are specialties close to railways such as mechanics, railways, and automobiles.

Therefore, Ho Chi Minh City needs to calculate investment and human resource training according to each stage. In the immediate future, training institutions need to supplement and transform industries "close" to the railway industry to promptly meet current human resources.
