10-year journey of implementing the United Nations peacekeeping mission

Just 10 years ago, on May 27, 2014, a special event, marking the official participation of peacekeeping activities (GGHB) of Vietnam's United Nations took place in Hanoi. It was the launch of the Vietnam Center for GGHB (now the GGHB Department) and the first two Vietnamese officers to offer the United Nations's GGHB mission in South Sudan. This event marks Vietnam's new development in the United Nations.

The two officers honored to be assigned to be communication officers at the United Nations Security Service mission in this African country are Lieutenant Colonel Mac Duc Trong and Lieutenant Colonel Tran Nam Ngan, who are officers of the Ministry of National Defense.

Over the past 10 years, a difficult, arduous but glorious journey, many classes of officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) have participated in this noble mission.

Most recently, in early April 2024, the Ministry of National Defense continued to hold a ceremony to present the President's decision and the decision of the Minister of National Defense to 3 officers on duty at the United Nations Security Service at the delegations: MINUSCA (Central African Republic), UNMISS (Southern Sudan Republic) and UNISFA (Ayei region).

During the April 20024 ceremony, on behalf of the officers preparing to leave for the mission, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Sy Hieu - former lecturer of the Department of Aviation Weapons, Aviation Engineering Department, Air -Air Force Academy, sent to the MINUSCA Military Observatory (Central Africa Republic) - affirmed that the officers will always unite and proactively cooperate with colleagues, determined to complete the United Nations and the National Party Committee.

At the mission area, the soldiers will strictly comply with military discipline, UN regulations on security and safety as well as the laws and culture of the host country; strengthen communication work, actively participate in humanitarian activities, contribute to spreading the image of the friendly, humane, peace-loving country and people of Vietnam and the noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" to international friends.

In this ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien - Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of Defense, Head of Inter -sectoral Working Group, Head of the Ministry of Defense Steering Committee on participating in the United Nations GGHB activities - evaluated, during the 10 -year process of Vietnam participating in this special humanitarian activity, officers in duty in the position of the Personal Personal and the Vietnam People's Army's ability and the National Assembly sacrifice.

Spreading the image of the country and people of Vietnam

Spreading the image of a friendly, humane Vietnamese country and people, peace-loving and the noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" to international friends is also the way that the cadres and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army have worked hard to build over the past 10 years when participating in the United Nations General Confederation of Labor activities.

According to the report of the Vietnam Department of GGHB, up to now, in 10 years of participating in the United Nations GGHB activities, the People's Army of Vietnam has sent 804 turns of professional officers and soldiers deployed in the form of individual and unit, including 5 teams of the 2nd level field hospital deployed at the Southern Sudan mission, the 2 -fighter of the army team deployed in the ABYEI area and 114 officials deployed in the form of personal officers deployed in the form of officials.

The units and officers of the People's Army of Vietnam have successfully completed and excelled in the tasks of the mission and the United Nations; Many officers at the end of the term are evaluated by the United Nations to successfully complete the tasks and awarded certificates of merit. In particular, 100% of Vietnamese People's Army officials are commanded by the Mission on behalf of the United Nations Security Council to reward medal for the United Nations GGHB career.

The Border Guard Agency said that the number of cadres who have completed their tasks excellently in Vietnam is much higher than the general level of the United Nations and other countries sending troops.

According to the assessment of the mission commander and the United Nations agencies, the GGHB forces of the People's Army of Vietnam have made a lot of efforts in performing the assigned tasks, showing professionalism, creativity, high discipline and leaving many good impressions on the commander of the sects as well as friends and international colleagues.
